At our October 5th board meeting we discussed our legislative efforts on the
national level. Members of Congress are in their districts campaigning
between now and the November 5th elections. This is an ideal time to bring
our issues to their attention and garner their support. Although it is late
in the session, it is possible to see positive movement once the election is
out of the way. Also, they will be more familiar with the bill when it is
filed in the next session.

Below is a list of our legislative bills for your information. However, the
top three bills are our priorities:

the Blind Americans Return to Work Act H.R. 8878 has been introduced in the
House of Representatives. It will eliminate the SSDI earnings cliff by
instituting a two-for-one phase out of benefits for any income earned above
the substantial gainful activity threshold. The bill was introduced by
Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas and has Congressman Kweisi Mfume of
Maryland as the lead cosponsor.

The Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act (H.R. 1328)

Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act (H.R. 5813/S. 2984)

Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (H.R. 1263/S. 533)

Access Technology Affordability Act (H.R. 3702/S. 1467)

Communications, Video, and Technology Accessibility Act (H.R. 4858/S. 2494)

Hope to hear about some up coming meetings over the next few weeks.

Thanks,

Shelia
