[Nfbmt] Cool Technology

Like Bruce, I also use the BraillePlus18 from APH. It's really an
Android smart phone built on a Braille platform. It runs mainstream
Android apps, but it also comes with apps custom built for the device by
APH. I love the device because it's the only machine I need when
traveling these days. No more laptops for me. I can use e-mails,
browse the web, compose and read documents, and use other routine tasks.
The BP18 also includes a good GPS program that can be used no matter
whether one is connected to the Internet or not. Another app lets you
use the BP18 as a scan and read tool. Simply take a picture of a
document, and it does the OCR to read print documents to me.

I do not use the phone features on the BP18. Instead, I use it as a
wireless device. It's best used as a connected device rather than offline.

I am an Android user. I've tried IOS devices, and they are fine.
However, Android gives users real choice. It also isn't as stable as
IOS as a result, but if given the choice between a tightly controlled
top-down IOS device or one that let's me control much of what happens
like Android does, I'll take the choice and its inconveniences each time.
