Hi Ted. CCB; I applied for the center in September. I applied by u. s.
mail. I didn't hear anything on my app so I began trying to get ahold of
someone over there via phone. I left multiple messages for Julie, the
director, because I had met her when I was in Denver for the gala
celebration and she was the one who encouraged me to apply when I expressed
my strong interest in what I could obtain from CCB. I attempted to get
ahold of both Julie and Dan for several weeks, to no avail. I was
uncomfortable bugging Dan about it because I don't think it's really his
department, he's just someone I knew of who might be able to talk to Julie
because I wasn't having any luck getting ahold of her. I left her multiple
phone messages with no reply back. I Left Dan messages on his phone and on
fb. I also sent Julie a message on fb. All I have gotten in return from
CCB was a phone call from Julie in early December, finally acknowledging
that she had received my application and asking me when I wanted to come to
the center. I repeated for her what I thought would be a good tentative
start date for me at CCB. She said she would be calling me back the
following week but I still haven't heard back from her. Julie did tell me
at one point that she thought she could arrange a cost deduction for me
because I will be paying out of pocket for services I receive at CCB but she
never said anything else about it. I'm not sure if this offer is causing
the hang up or what. If it is, I don't want a discount, I just want to
receive the services, I really need the training and I don't know where else
to go to get it. I'm frustrated because there are things we want to plan as
a family and I am hesitant to plan any of these events with my family
because I'm worried that I will plan something and then Julie will call me
and expect me to drop my plans with my family and come running to CCB. I
can't keep putting my life on hold waiting for her to give me a date when I
need to be committed to CCB for nine months. I have small children and a
husband who's lives will be turned upside down by my departure from their
lives when I go to CCB and I want to be able to make the transition as
smooth as possible for my family. Julie doesn't seem to understand this.

Becca,
I installed ms 2013 in my computer and faught it until I had to
unload it, going back to 2010. You might check with Freedom Scientific to
see if they hav a tutorial for JAWS with Word 2013.
Has there been any contact from CCB to you about your application?
If not, I suggest you recontact them via phone to find out what any problem
there might be. Perhaps its just a communication problem.
Ted

Hi Joy. I have Word 2013 in my computer. No. I'm sure the problem lies
with the operator. I'm not very good at using a computer. I had hoped to
learn better computer skills and so much more at CCB since they offer all of
that but for some reason they appear to not want me to come to CCB so I
don't know what I'm going to do. I'm in quite a pickle. I don't know how to
use a computer beyond a few things my friend showed me, I can't read Braille
and I'm not very competent at cooking. These are all things I had hoped to
get at CCB. Did you get training at CCB or some other school for the blind?
Just tell me if it's none of my business. I'm curious because you and Bruce
are both blind. It must be difficult for you guys to manage unless one or
both of you received training.

I'm wondering if, since these are in Microsoft Word and you don't have that
on your computer, (I don't think), that's why you can't access them.
Otherwise, I don't have any other bright ideas. But we got it solved
anyway. Joy
