Dear Affiliate Members,

The NFB will conduct nationwide Cardtronics ATM testing in September and
October of this year as an important part of the NFB's settlement agreement
with Cardtronics. Montana is included in this testing effort and will have
the opportunity to test at least eleven ATMs for accessibility. If you would
like to be a tester, please contact me off list before August 15. I have
heard from one person so far. Testers will need to be able to read Braille
instructions and should be comfortable using an ATM and completing an online
survey. Testers will be asked to confirm that voice guidance software and
other accessibility features have been added to specific, assigned
Cardtronics ATMs. The tester's role is critical to this project and I thank
you for considering being involved.

The ATM testing will be very different from NFB's current rideshare testing
program, in that here we're looking for a small pool of pre-determined
testers to evaluate specific, assigned ATMs. An affiliate may choose to have
only one tester or up to eleven different testers who each evaluate one ATM.
Fortunately, Cardtronics ATMs are plentiful, and we should be able to
identify ATMs within testers' preferred zip codes, to make testing as
convenient as possible.

Testing Process: Each NFB tester will be provided with the location of one or
more Cardtronics ATMs and will be asked to record his or her findings on the
NFB's online ATM testing questionnaire. Specifically, testers will need to
note any ATM errors or error messages, describe any ATM malfunctions, and
confirm that:

*	The headphone jack, card insertion slot, cash dispenser, and receipt
chute are marked with Braille,
*	There are Braille instructions for initiating the speech mode,
*	Voice guidance begins in English upon insertion of the headset into
the headphone jack,
*	The user can control the volume,

*	Voice quality is reasonably understandable,

*	A balance inquiry and cash withdrawal can be completed using voice
guidance,
*	Voice guidance provides both a transaction summary and confirmation
that the transaction is completed, and
*	Voice guidance instructs the user to remove the headset.

This testing to ensure that blind individuals have full and equal access to
Cardtronics ATM services is an important project for the NFB. It will require
testers to give serious time and attention in a formal way to the testing
processes and to document the results of their tests in a specific manner.
The NFB intends to provide instructions and support to testers. The NFB will
also provide grants to affiliates whose testing efforts are successful.

Timeframe: Testing will commence on September 1, and we ask that testing be
completed by October 15, 2017. This will allow NFB a two-week window with
which to resolve any issues before the settlement agreement's mandated
testing completion date of October 31, 2017. It is possible that affiliates
will be offered additional testing opportunities during this two-week window
in late October.

If you would like to be a tester, please contact me off list by phone or
email. See signature below. I will need your name, address, phone, email,
and preferred zip code.

Thank you in advance for your participation. We would like to get as much
coverage as possible in Montana. One person could theoretically cover eleven
ATMs in their city or zip code, but that wouldn't help insure compliance of
any other ATMs located elsewhere in the state.

Live the life you want

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
