Are masking practices creating barriers to the people you serve?

DET recognizes that mask requirements can cause barriers when serving people
with disabilities. Communication becomes difficult to those we serve who are
Deaf or Hard of Hearing, have cognitive deficits, experience
confusion/stress/anxiety, have speech impairments, work in noisy
environments, etc.

There are several solutions available to accommodate this. Some individuals
may prefer a face shield and there are several transparent face mask options
currently available.

If you need assistance problem-solving through barriers that masking
requirements might cause, please feel free to contact us for assistance and
tips.
