Greetings Fellow Federationists,

It is so hard to believe that April is almost over and the NFB National
Convention is just around the corner! This year's convention will be held
in New Orleans Louisiana from July 5th through the 10, 2022. The deadline
for

Registration <https://nfb.org/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=479>

Is May 31, 2022, so be sure and get registered as soon as possible! For
additional information on

National Convention <https://nfb.org/get-involved/national-convention>

Click the above link. The agenda will be posted in June.

For those who are planning to attend national convention I need you to
contact me please. We have a couple of opportunities to get involved as
well as information pertaining to the Nebraska affiliate specifically.
Please email me at

president at ne.nfb.org <mailto:president at ne.nfb.org>

or by phone at (308) 520-9024 right away!

If you aren't sure if you'll be able to financially afford convention,
please read below for an announcement from First Vice President Christine
Boone. As always, contact me with any questions!

As you all know, the National Federation of the Blind is holding our
National convention in New Orleans Louisiana this summer, beginning on
Tuesday July 5th, and ending on Sunday July 10th. There is truly nothing on
earth that compares with an NFB National convention.

* Blind children meet other blind kids and learn how to live in the
world more comfortably and more confidently with their blindness.

* Parents of blind children learn more than they ever imagined knowing
about raising a blind child to become a successful, independent blind adult.

* Blind high school and college students find a whole new network of
friends while learning about the best ways to get the kind of education they
want to pursue.

* Blind professionals in every field can find mentors, friends,
information, laughter and learning.

Everyone will be staying in one of two hotels, The New Orleans Marriott
at 555 Canal Street, and the Sheraton New Orleans, situated just across
Canal Street from the Marriott. You will need to reserve a room at one of
these luxurious facilities as soon as possible, but not later than May 31st
after which time the special rate given to NFB members will no longer be
honored.

Here is some information to give you a rough idea about how much it will
cost one person to attend this year's convention.

*	We anticipate airfare from Nebraska to New Orleans will cost between
$400 and $600.
*	Your hotel will cost about $1,000 without a roommate.
*	Convention registration costs $25. Proof of registration is required
if you want to pay the much cheaper hotel room rate only available to NFB
convention attendees.
*	The Sunday evening Banquet will cost $70.
*	It is best to plan a meal budget of about $100 per day.
*	You may also want some money to spend on purchasing things in the
largest blindness-focused exhibit hall anywhere on the planet this year.
*	You will also have ground transportation to and from the airport at
either end of your journey, along with the extra small expenses that
accompany any trip like this.

Now, having taken the above information into consideration, do you feel
you will be financially able to attend National Convention this year?
Perhaps it will help you to know we are offering some financial assistance
for those who might need a little help to make this dream come true. First
you should know we do not cover the entire trip for anyone. Every Nebraska
convention attendee must purchase their own registration and banquet ticket.

For anyone wanting financial assistance from our Nebraska affiliate, we
have a committee in place to manage this important task. These colleagues of
ours have the responsibility of reviewing all applicants and dividing the
available pot of money among the requests they receive. To make application
for a Nebraska 2022 convention award, please contact our Treasurer, Cheryl
Livingston. Cheryl may be reached by calling (402) 889-5346, or by email at:

 treasurer at ne.nfb.org <mailto:treasurer at ne.nfb.org>

You Must send your request to Cheryl No later than May 15, 2022. You
will receive notification of any financial award you receive, not later than
May 21st, 2022.

Hope to see you at convention!

Sincerely,

Jamie K. Richey, President

National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska
