Greetings,
The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

Name of Study: Autonomous Vehicle Perceptions by the Blind and Low Vision

I am Abigail Kuborn, a graduate student at the Indiana University School of Optometry researching user accessibility within autonomous or self-driving vehicles. We are investigating how diverse types of vision loss create different challenges and needs in transportation. Specifically, this project is investigating how blind and low vision users would prefer to interact with an autonomous vehicle. The future of this project is to partner with car manufacturers and shape the design of accessible technologies for users with any level of vision. I am looking for low vision and blind adults over the age of 18 who live in the United States to participate in my study.
To be eligible for this study, participants must:

  *   Be over age 18
  *   Speak English
  * Be blind or have low vision
This study consists of one phone call lasting about half an hour. We will have you complete a questionnaire over the phone about general characteristics about yourself, your travel behaviors, and your views about autonomous/self-driving vehicles. All of your responses will be anonymous and confidential. Participants who complete the questionnaire will be entered into a drawing for three $100 gift cards.

Thank you in advance for your time and participation in my research study.
Thank you,
Abigail Kuborn
