The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

 

Research Title: High Stakes Testing Experiences of People who are Blind or Have Low Vision

 

Being conducted by: East Texas A&M University

 

Purpose of the Study

There is a notable dearth of research specifically focusing on high stakes testing accommodations for students who are blind or visually impaired.  High stakes tests often determine admission, graduation, or employment. They can affect salary, career advancement, or legal ability to work. In addition, they require months or years of preparation and are often costly and difficult to retake. We hope to learn about challenges and barriers to equitable and authentic testing experiences that adults have faced so that we can improve public awareness and advocate for change.

 

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study 

Participants will complete a survey that will take no longer than 30 minutes

 

10 participants will be chosen to complete a follow up interview that will last 60 minutes

 

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, Survey participants will be entered into a drawing for three $20 gift cards. Each interview participant will receive a $20 gift card.
