Just as with most sighted people, the majority of people who are blind will
eventually have children. There are blind parents who are married to other
blind people, married to sighted people, single, divorced, foster parents,
adoptive parents, and blind parents with additional disabilities. However,
blind parents are often confronted by the negative attitudes and
misconceptions from society about their ability to competently raise their
own children.

This month’s panelists will share their experiences as parents, who happen
to be blind and because it’s that time of year, they will also touch on
preparing for school with their children and all that involves.

Call in to hear which of our panelists: is parenting twins; experienced
post-partum depression;  is an attorney; teaches independent living skills;
founded an organization to fight the prejudices and stereotypes that
confront parents with disabilities; teaches childcare skills to other blind
parents; has a daughter who will soon start high school; and coordinates a
support group for parents who are blind, deafblind and visually impaired.

*Laurel King *
