Join us in the fight for civil rights!
The New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (DCR) seeks highly motivated
individuals with a passion for protecting civil rights, to participate in
its Fall 2022 internship program. The internships will last a minimum of
eight weeks with an estimated and flexible start date of on or around
September 20, 2022.
Division on Civil Rights Fall Legal Internship
The intern will work as part of a team to accept and evaluate claims
brought under the NJ Law Against Discrimination. In this role, the intern
will conduct legal research, assist with drafting verified complaints and
discovery requests, assist investigators in their preparation for witness
interviews, review evidence, and make recommendations based on the
investigatory findings. The intern will gain hands-on experience utilizing
different tools to evaluate claims of discrimination.

DCR Community Relations Unit (CRU) Fall Internship
This internship will offer experience to students interested in supporting
a growing statewide civil rights agency and gaining an experience in public
outreach and community engagement. The Community Relations Unit seeks to
prevent acts of discrimination and bias-based harassment through education
and community engagement and to work directly with impacted communities
after civil rights incidents occur. Racial justice, youth anti-bias, and
health equity are examples of key program areas.

Division on Civil Rights Public Health Fall Internship
This internship will offer a student interested in health care, health
equity, and public policy an opportunity to gain experience in policy
development and implementation for a statewide civil rights agency. The
public health intern will work primarily on issues related to racial and
ethnic health disparities including: health equity, COVID-19, the use of
race-correction in medical technology, and various civil rights violations
as public health concerns.

DCR Strategic Initiatives and Enforcement Unit Fall LGBTQIA+ Rights and
Gender Equity Internship
The fall intern will work closely with Legal Specialists within DCR’s
Strategic Initiatives and Enforcement Unit who focus on advancing LGBTQIA+
rights and gender equity. While the intern will primarily focus on LGBTQIA+
rights and gender equity work, the intern may also have opportunities to
work on other civil rights issues, which may include employment
discrimination, housing discrimination, and reproductive rights.
