We are excited to have you come out this year to have a shared experience
with others that are blind. It is a fun day! More importantly is that you
are part of a special community that unites once a year to send a message
out to the world, that you can live the life you want regardless of ones
vision. You are the mentors to all those living in fear, perhaps just
diagnosed still with the onset of failing vision. I personally said the
words as a young man, “If I go blind I am going to kill myself." I needed
hope! These folks need to see what you're doing as you seize the day on
August 20th. You are giving hope to so many! Thank you!
Now some updates:
1.Beach Address: 100 Ocean Ave N. Long Branch
<https://www.google.com/maps/search/100+Ocean+Ave+N.+Long+Branch?entry=gmail&source=g>
This is the address of Rooney’s Ocean front Restaurant which is our
landmark. Rooney’s next to the Great Lawn where we check everyone in for
the event.
2.Parking: We do have roughly 45 spots up at the beach area that are
reserved for our event. There is a $12.00 donation fee per car. Each year
based on the money collected VEF makes a donation to the Long Branch Life
Guards.
3.This year we will begin registration at 7:30 am giving out numbers to
surf and wristbands to get on the beach when we open up the event. We
suggest you get there early.
4. Your registration asked you about swim shirt sizes. Last year we had
everyone pay to register as we were coming out of Covid as they wanted to
get an idea of how many people were going to come. We have always been a
free event so we gave everyone a swim shirt and lunch. Thi year the swim
shirts are optional to buy there is no fee to register. The sizes helped us
plan our order in case you want one. They are really great this year. We
may be able to take pre event orders so if you want to do that let us know.
We always ask for you to bring someone new. Just getting them there is a
game changing day for many. This year we lost a special friend to the
community. So please spread the word let’s honor Joe together.
This year’s event will be dedicated to our friend and mentor Joe Ruffalo.
Everyone who knew this man was blessed. Joe was our oldest surfer, year
one. He loved what we were doing. This year we will be presenting the
Joseph J Ruffalo Lifetime achievement award. Linda Melendez the current
NJNFB president will be attending to say some words about Joe and his
accomplishments.
Send surfingforvision.org to your friends to participate or cheer!
