*We are excited to share our upcoming edition of VLANJ Voices Educational
Speaker Series Presents…Doug Gilbert, Certified Orientation & Mobility
Specialist*







*VLANJ Voices Educational Speaker Series will provide you with information,
practical education, tools, and available resources to help you manage
tasks in your everyday life. VLANJ Voices will engage speakers with
expertise in a range of topics who bring knowledge, resources, useful tips,
and strategies around health, wellness, and vision loss. These speakers
bring new “voices” that also represent diverse backgrounds, approaches to
learning, and programs and opportunities available in our community. This
program is open to individuals experiencing vision loss and their friends
and family members.We welcome back Doug Gilbert, COMS, who will be speaking
on the impact of other physical disabilities, which may impact your
Orientation & Mobility Skills and how to compensate for them.Mobility for
people who are blind or low vision can be challenging under most
circumstances, but what if there are additional disabilities that
contribute additional challenges of being mobile and navigating within the
environment? In this seminar, Doug will discuss how an O&M specialist would
approach instructing individuals who have additional disabilities to vision
loss, and Doug will share personal experiences and how to problem solve
these issues for ourselves and others.  *
