Hello Friends,



Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey is excited to announce Winter 2023
Course offerings.   These programs are offered live at our facility in
Denville, NJ the Hub of Morris County.  Our location is Access Link
accessible and subscriptions with Access Link are available when
registering for classes.  The contact number to learn more about programs
is listed at the bottom of this email.

*Live Program offerings:*



*Monday’s Independent Living Skills *

Adjustment to vision loss can be a difficult process.  Our goal is to
provide you with the skills needed to live confidently and independently
after vision loss occurs. In this 6-week program our certified instructors
will teach you the techniques and strategies needed to perform daily tasks,
such as cooking, managing medications, and household organization.
Included in the Independent Living Skills program will be an introduction
to assistive technologies and devices that can ease frustrations and help
you stay connected.



*Thursday’s Holistic Wellness Program -*

The 12-week Holistic Wellness Program is designed to strengthen your mind,
body, and build a sense of community and connection with others. It also
serves to enhance your emotional and physical well-being through a variety
of classes such as: Fit-n-Balance, Healing through Drumming, Horticulture,
Healthy Options Cooking Class, and Art Studio.



*Technology Programs*



*Tuesday’s Mobile Technology- iPhone & iPad Training Program*

Our 12-week Mobile Technology program will teach you how to functionally
use iPhones and iPads using the iOS built in accessibility features such as
low vision modifications, to adjust text size and contrast, and/or the
VoiceOver feature.  Apps for daily living, such as Seeing AI talking camera
for the blind, Be my Eyes and others are explored.



*Wednesday’s Learning Lab, computer training*

The Learning Lab uses the Windows platform, and teaches a program called
Fusion, created by Freedom Scientific. This program teaches Zoom Text, a
magnification software program, JAWS, which is an accessible screen reader,
and Fusion, which combines both features. This program also runs for 12
weeks.



*In addition, Vision Loss Alliance offers a host of Virtual weekly classes
and Enrichment Opportunities…*



*Virtual and Enrichment Opportunities*

Vision Loss Alliance offers virtual programming through the zoom platform
giving individuals with vision loss the opportunity to join a variety of
weekly classes and Enrichment opportunities. These Enrichment Opportunities
include monthly programs such as STRIVE, (Strength, Through, Relationships,
Insights, Values and Education) a support group for individuals with vision
loss and family members to join for education and peer insight.  ARISE
(Achieving Resilience Inspiration and Self-Empowerment) designed to
motivate and inspire people to achieve their best selves.  Other evening
programs include VLANJ Voices, and VLANJ Tech Talks.

Occupational Therapy Services…*



*Low Vision Occupational Therapy Services*

Many individuals experiencing vision loss have difficulty using their
functional vision to complete ordinary tasks and need help to regain skills
and confidence. Our low vision services are provided by an accredited
Occupational Therapist with specialty certifications in Low Vision. Our
goal is to provide you with the techniques and skills needed to continue to
live independently and confidently.



Depending upon your specific needs, you will be trained in areas of
personal care, home management activities, financial management, reading,
writing and assistive technology.  All services are provided under the
guidance of your eye care specialist and are approved by most major
insurance plans, including Medicare.
