[NFBO-Springfield] January 2024 meeting minutes

Special Presentation
Trae Winters, from Arisa Labs, an organization that works with NASA, presented regarding Eclipse Soundscapes. Arisa Labs has a goal to work with NASA to make science more accessible. The acronym stands for Advanced Research in Steam Accessibility. Their website is arisalab.org. Debbie will receive an email with the links to all of the resources Arisa Labs has to offer, and that will be shared with the chapter. Mr. Winters spoke about the various accessible projects surrounding the upcoming eclipse, which have been developed in partnership with blind people, rather than for blind people.
Reports
Arlie moved, Mickie sceconded to approve December 2023 minutes. The motion passed.
We tabled the treasurer's report until the next meeting.
Unfinished Business
Membership dues are due to Gina by the end of January. There was a discussion of developing a PayPal account for the chapter so that dues can be paid without need to send a check.
Debbie has reached out to members who have not attended in a while to send out our meeting information and to inquire whether they would like to remain members.
The list of inactive members will be split among the membership so that calls can be placed to each of them. Arlie and Pat volunteered to assist.
New Business
Debbie asked if anyone knew of events in which we could recruit new members. Some ideas given were Relay for Life and Woofstock.
Debbie spoke with Beth at the national office who updated the membership status of Joe Jeffrey.
The meeting was adjourned. Our next meeting is February 10, 2024, via Zoom.
