NFB OF ALASKA STATE CONVENTION
OCTOBER 15-16, 2021
Anywhere and Everywhere
ALWAYS BETTER TOGETHER

NFB PLEDGE
I pledge to participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its constitution.

The NFB One Minute Message
The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

The National Federation of the Blind of Alaska is committed to promoting equity and inclusion. This includes: ability, age, religion, race, ethnicity, culture, gender identity or expression, and sexual orientation. We are committed to honoring the lived experiences of those with congenital and acquired blindness; those with different geographic backgrounds, different languages, financial status, the open exchange of ideas, and opinions; providing education and training, guidance and advocacy.

National Rep, Terri Rupp, National NFB Board member and Affiliate president of Nevada—

Terri may have a closet full of shoes like any other mom in the suburbs, but she is most definitely not your average mom next door. As the author of the blog Blind Mom in the Burbs, Terri has shared for over a decade about her trials, triumphs, tears, and travels as a stay-at-home mom in the suburbs of Sin City. When asked the common question, “What do you do?” She often laughs as she replies, “What do I not do?”

Being given the security and opportunity to not have to work and stay home to raise her two children, Terri doesn’t let a single moment go to waste. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of the Blind, National Braille Press, Blind Inc., and as the President of the National Federation of the Blind of Nevada.

Some may ask how one woman finds balance as a wife, mom, and leader in the blindness community. Terri’s balance is found through her love of the outdoors. From camping, hiking, biking, to running distances of 100 miles just for fun. You’ll see her smiling every step of the way as she breezes by and says,” It’s not about how fast or far you go. It’s about how much fun you’re having, and who you’ve got by your side.”
