COLUMBIA CHAPTER NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 13, 2018
$1 NFB LAS VEGAS CONVENTION TICKETS!
$1 Las Vegas NFB 2019 Convention tickets were passed out at the
September 20 Columbia Chapter meeting. If you did not get your 50 pack or
if you need more, contact David Houck at 254-3777. The drawing is set for
Saturday, January 5 at the Statewide Seminar. The winning ticket buyer will
receive $300 and the seller will receive $100. The chapter selling the most
tickets will receive $300 for their treasury. Let's sell these tickets and
be sure your filled out ticket stubs and money are turned in to David Houck
at the Federation Center by January 5, 2019. Buy some for yourself and you
might win $400. Let's not let Columbia lose out on the $300 prize for the
chapter treasury. These funds will help transportation efforts for those
flying from Charlotte, NC to Las Vegas in getting to and from Charlotte and
the Mandalay Bay Hotel. If you need information concerning flying to Las
Vegas at a group rate, contact Tiffiny Mitchell at 603-2098.
JANUARY 5, 2019 STATEWIDE SEMINAR
Bring auction items to raise money for Rocky Bottom. Also bring
your Las Vegas $1 tickets for the drawing. There is much to hear and learn.
Mark your calendar to be there! Remember state and chapter dues are due by
January 31. Please turn in your $15 dues to Chapter Treasurer Thom Spittle
beginning January 1. Don't forget to give them your updated address, phone
and email!
DECEMBER 13 COLUMBIA CHAPTER MEETING
President Tiffiny Mitchell gaveled the meeting to order at 6:15
p.m. Steve Cook welcomed visitors and guests. Ernest Gallman played
Christmas music. The meeting hall was packed as the members brought items
for a pot luck dinner. Volunteers helped serve the variety of food and
dessert items. David Houck read from Luke 2, the Christmas Story and
Jennifer Bazer read about the legend of the candy cane. There was also a
gift exchange for those who participated. Frank Coppel encouraged everyone
to sell their Las Vegas tickets, attend the January 5 Statewide Seminar and
he recounted some of the other chapters celebrating Christmas. The 75th
anniversary NFB of SC convention will be held August 9-11 at the Columbia
Marriott. Keep Betty Capps in your prayers as she is not doing well. Also
pray for Leanna Hall who is in the hospital. Padgett McKenzie of the
Clarendon Chapter has also been in the hospital for a few weeks. We will
begin saying the NFB pledge in January. NFB Pledge: "I pledge to
participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of the Blind
to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to support the
policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its constitution."
The freewill offering will go to Laura and Malcolm Dennis whose son Luke is
in the hospital for several weeks. The Federation Center will be closed
from Friday, December 21 through Tuesday, December 25 for Christmas and
January 1 for New Year's Day. See Shannon Cook about a Yard Sale on
Saturday, January 18
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
