JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The South Carolina Commission for the Blind helps blind or visually impaired residents of South Carolina gain independence and identify their strengths, abilities, skills, and resources to obtain employment. The commission provides adjustment-to-blindness training and job-placement services for thousands of South Carolinians each year.


The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor provides vocational rehabilitation services to blind and visually impaired consumers with the ultimate goal of successful rehabilitation and placement into gainful activity for the Charleston area; counties include Charleston and Berkeley.

**This position qualifies for the job referral and the sign-on bonus reward program. Eligible candidates will receive a sign-on bonus after one month of continuous employment and after the end of a successful probationary period. MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

Agency Requirements: A master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or Human Services with at least 3 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or workforce development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Must have above average knowledge of state and federal VR laws and regulations. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to organize his or her casework and manage the caseload effectively. Employee must possess good organizational skills, a high level of initiative and the ability to use sound judgment. Employee must be able to work with minimal amount of supervision as well as a high degree of discretion and independence. Employee will be responsible for adhering to all agency policies, guidelines, federal and state laws as they relate to the VR program vocational requirements. Daily travel up to 3 days per week and occasional overnights required. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
