You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams.

On August 12, 2021, the ColumbiaChapter of the NFB of SC held its monthly meeting. There were 28 members in attendance. Pathronda Anderson opened us in prayer. Ike Nelson welcomed visitors and provided the menu for the night. Mike Sutton led the pledge of allegiance, Thomas Spittle led the One Minute Message, and Jennifer Bazer recited the NFB Pledge. Shannon Cook provided the devotion based on a series of books entitled Conversations with God. Kristopher Crawley was our guest speaker for the night. He provided us information on the Muslim faith. He also spoke on the efforts of the newly formed NFB Muslim group that will advocate for Muslim rights and accessible materials.
In national news, it was announced that the banquet speech from the National Convention can be accessed online at this time.
In state news, we are looking forward to the state convention being held at the Marriott in North Charleston from August 20 through August 22. We were also reminded to sell tickets for the Marriott stay as well as for The Rocky bottom fundraiser.
In local news, we celebrated August birthdays, called the roll, adopted July minutes and heard the financial report. Pathronda Anderson won the 50/50 drawing, and Lisa Best won the second prize. Our September meeting will be a hybrid meeting due to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The Zoom will be locked down during the meeting, but online members will be allowed to ask questions at the end of the meeting.
We look forward to our next meeting on 9 September 2021 at 6:00 PM.
Tracy Spittle
Secretary, Columbia Chapter
