Greetings Fellow Federationists:
I want to thank all of you for your calls, texts and email messages
regarding my grandfather's passing on September 21. The prayers and thoughts
meant so much to our family during this challenging time. My grandfather was
89. He served his church, his country and his family. He preached to the
members of Christopher Towers in Columbia each Sunday at 3:00 PM for over 25
years. He raised millions of dollars for charities. He sold numerous houses
to members of the blind community in our state. He was a husband, father,
grandfather, and great grandfather. His dedication and passion for
everything he took on was authentic and sincere. Any time you asked him how
he was, he said, "I am too blessed to be depressed." I will remember
spending time at our family farm where he had over 30 head of cattle. I
remember walking the pasture as my grandfather tossed out hay and counted
the cattle one by one. He knew when one was missing and could tell you their
name and markings. I never got into fishing, but he always wanted me to go
spend time catching some fish. It wasn't about catching fish; it was about
spending time with my Papa. Cade and Kaylin loved their Papa. He called
them, his little ones and loved spending time with them. The hardest thing
was watching my 8 and 11 year old children saying goodbye to their Papa; I
am thankful they had that closure and have so many memories of him. As I
remember his enthusiasm for everything he took on, I hope I have the
dedication, passion and authenticity to take on any tasks just like my Papa;
he wouldn't want it any other way. And, of course, my Papa knows best!

Federation Center 60th Anniversary
Dear Federation Family:
Yes, that's right, there is only two more weeks until the Federation
Center's 60th anniversary Open House from noon until 2 p.m.
We already have RSVP's coming in which includes several Belvedere Chapter
members. Columbia Chapter members are sending in their intentions to attend
as well. How about you or your local chapter? I am certain Debra Canty
will have several coming in from Sumter. The Federation Center is your
Center.the hub of activity for NFB of SC events, programs, not to mention
assistance for chapters, divisions and Rocky Bottom. We want to show off
our floor to ceiling renovations, technology, braille, etc.
We want to see you here on Friday, October 15 between 12 noon and 2 p.m. for
our Open House. I believe we have secured a Master of Ceremonies and our
program is shaping up nicely. Refreshments will be catered. Don't miss out
on this very special event! What Dr. Capps dreamed of six decades ago has
come into fruition and still offers blind South Carolinians much for many
years to come.

toiletries and other items were distributed.
The Anderson chapter will be having two BEAM events this month. The first
will take place on October 2, 2021 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the American Legion
at 1301 E. Greenville St., Anderson SC 29621. This event will be our very
first open house and will give the general public some insight on what we do
in the national Federation of the blind. Featured tables will include
membership, Braille literacy, technology, blind merchants, and more.
The second event will be our walk which will take place on October 9th at
10 AM at Christopher Taylor park at the Anderson Civic Center, which is
located at 3027 Martin Luther King Blvd., Anderson South Carolina 29625.

Fascinating Facts
After reading this, I may not want to visit my Papa's farm with the cows
anymore, LOL!
Cows kill more Americans each year than sharks do.
Joke of the Week
There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator. (.Only a fraction
of people will get this clean joke.)
Final Thought
"Someday is not a day of the week." -Denise Brennan-Nelson
NFB Pledge
I pledge to participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of
the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to
support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its
constitution.
NFB One Minute Message
"The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back."
