              Greetings Fellow Federationists:

Hello and welcome to Flight 2022. We are prepared to take off into the New
Year. Please make sure your Positive Attitude and Gratitude are secured and
locked in the upright position. All self-destruct devices: pity, anger,
selfishness, pride, and resentment should be turned off at this time. All
negativity, hurt, and discouragement should be put away. Should you lose
your Positive Attitude under pressure during this flight, reach up and pull
down a prayer. Prayers will automatically be activated by Faith. Once your
Faith is activated, you can assist other passengers. There will be NO
BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. God, our Captain, has cleared us for
take-off. Destination - GREATNESS! Wishing you a New Year filled with new
HOPE, new JOY, and new BEGINNINGS! Stay Blessed! And welcome in 2022

Palmetto Connects, Thursday, January 6, 2022

Palmetto Connects will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 6:00 PM Eastern
on the Federation zoom platform. I look forward to seeing all of you for
happenings in the NFB of SC!

Statewide Seminar, January 8, 2022

The 2022 statewide seminar will be held January 8 at the Federation Center
in Columbia from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM Eastern. The statewide seminar is
like a mini one day convention where we will hear from chapters, divisions,
committees and more about their events in the Palmetto affiliate. It is a
time to come together, meet new friends, reunite with old friends. We will
be streaming this event on zoom. As a result, participation and discussion
will not be able to happen during streaming. We hope to see you there! Both
Rocky Bottom Board and NFB of SC will have their board meetings between
12:15 and 1:45. If you plan to attend in person, please call David Houck at
803-254-3777 so we know how many to plan for our free lunch. I want to thank
Ike Nelson for his willingness to assist in preparing our meal for this
event. I am hopeful that all leaders including chapter and division
presidents along with board members will attend in person.

One Word for 2022 for the NFB of SC!

During the statewide seminar, we as an affiliate will be choosing our one
word for 2022. I started doing this many years ago when I participated in
Run for God. I then heard Jon Gordon talk about the powerful impact of one
word. Now, I do this with my children and now with NFB of SC. Think about
our one word and send me suggestions. Thank you to those who have already
sent in their suggestions. We as an affiliate will vote on this word on
January 8.

Suggested words so far are:

Forbearance

Empathy

Integrity

Persistence

Serve

Commitment

State Dues

It is now 2022 and I hope all of you have paid your $10 state dues. These
were due by December 31. If you are a member of a board, hold an office, it
is vital that your state dues be paid no later than January 15 to remain a
leader in the organization. This includes chapters, divisions and officers
of NFB of SC, Federation Center, and Rocky Bottom. We have to lead by
example! All presidents of chapter and boards, please insure Steve Cook as
membership chair, David Houck and I have a list of your officers for 2022
along with their contact information and please insure membership dues are
paid for these officers to remain a leader.

Shoe Project

Please bring your gently used shoes and new socks for our shoe project to
the center if you are attending statewide seminar in person. We will be
giving our donation to Kara Jefferson during statewide seminar. If you are
not attending in person and still wish to participate, you can bring your
items to the Center at 119 S. Kilbourne Road, Columbia, SC 29205 or mail
them. If you wish to make a donation to this project, you may use pay pal on
our site with shoe project in the comment field and we will be happy to
purchase shoes or socks on your behalf. Shoes will be given to students in
schools who are not able to afford shoes and socks. Adults shoes and socks
will be given to those re-entering the workforce. Kara Jefferson is an
orientation and mobility specialist in the Lexington area. She has worked
with our students and adults on cane travel.

Auction at Statewide Seminar

We are having our auction to benefit Rocky bottom during statewide seminar.
Please remember to bring new items for others to bid on during our event
from 10-4 PM Eastern. I have items from 31 bags with the NFB of SC on them
along with Pampered Chef and Mountain Mist items. Lisa Best and JW's wife
are making homemade cakes and brownies. You will not want to miss the
auction for awesome items to benefit a place we all know and love!

Statewide Seminar Parade of Divisions and Committees

We will have a parade of divisions and committees brief reports during
statewide seminar. If you will be in person and you are on the board of a
division or chair or co-chair a committee, please be ready to give a brief
report during statewide seminar! Please keep these reports to about 2 or 3
minutes. It is totally ok to have a member of a division or committee to
give a testimonial about why they have benefited from the division or
committee. Testimonials are powerful!

You will discuss:

When your division/committee meets?

What is the purpose of your division or committee?

Why folks should join your division or committee?

Goals for 2022?

A testimonial from a member if possible?

Statewide Seminar fundraisers!

Chapters and divisions will be selling items as fundraisers. The NFB of SC
will be selling their bags and shirts as well. We are hoping to have some
sweatshirts with our logo on them by then as well for our statewide seminar.
Please support our affiliate, our chapters and our divisions at this event!

The NFB of SC is selling bags with the NFB of SC logo and Live the Life you

www.nfbofsc.org <http://www.nfbofsc.org>

tag line on the right side if looking at the shirt. On the back, you will
find the state of SC. These shirts are $25. You can purchase two bags for
$40 or two shirts for $40, or, one bag and one shirt for $40. If you just
want one or the other, the price is $25 each. We are hoping to get in some

Sports and Rec Fun

Sports and Rec will be hosting a trivia night Friday January 21st at 8 p.m.
on the NFB zoom line

Sports and Rec will be doing a fundraiser during state wide seminar. Anyone
in person or on zoom can contribute and enjoy this fun ever.

Our fundraiser will be giving away one maybe two honken big fun boxes. Both
will have all kinds of games, crafts, kitchen items, gardening items home
improvement items exercise items etc.

The fundraiser is $5 per person and what it'll be is each person randomly
picks a sealed envelope that has 5 random brailed playing cards in them.
Each person who contributes $5 will pick their own envelope and towards end
of seminar we the Sports Rec will collect the envelopes open them and take
out the five playing cards.

How to win well the envelops have 5 cards and it's poker so the best five
card hand wins. There's no switching of cards or envelopes between people.
Each envelope that a person picks will have their name placed on envelope
braille and written. NO ONE knows what cards are in what envelopes.

There's no work on your part just contribute $5 and watch us the Sports and
Rec go through and determine the winners.

It'll be so much fun come one come all. If your attending in person then
I'll be there if your attending via zoom you can still be part of
fundraiser. Let's us know that you want an envelope and we will have a
random person pick a random envelope and put your name on it. We can take
cash, check, PayPal. we'll just any type of payment. Hahaha lol.

Joke of the Week

What did the femur say to the patella?

I kneed you!

Fascinating Fact of the Week

>From last week? What percentage of Americans make resolutions and what
percentage break them within the second week of January? Answer, 45% make
and 25% break.

Cookie Monster Is Named Sid

We know the googly-eyed blue cookie fan simply as "cookie monster" but
that's not actually his real name. His creators actually
<http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Cookie_Monster> named him Sid but that name
just proved less catchy than the easier-to-remember Cookie Monster.

Final Thought

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on
them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New
Year's Day." Edith Lovejoy Pierce

NFB Pledge

I pledge to participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of
the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to
support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its
constitution.

NFB One Minute Message

"The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back."
