Greetings, Seeing Eye Graduate:

The Seeing Eye Advocacy Department is reaching out to let you know about a National Federation of the Blind rally at Uber and Lyft headquarters in San Francisco to protest ongoing discrimination by rideshare drivers against guide dog handlers and white cane users. The rally will take place on October 15, which is White Cane Awareness Day, from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Pacific time.

The Seeing Eye has learned that Guide Dog Users, Inc. also intends to be represented at the rally. David Johnson, Director of Advocacy and Government Relations, and Melissa Allman, Senior Specialist of Advocacy and Government Relations, plan to represent The Seeing Eye at the rally.

To learn more about the agenda, exact location, and lodging details, please contact NFB directly. NFB has provided a form where you can indicate your interest in attending the rally at https://nfb.org/programs-services/advocacy/rideshare-rally-interest. Once you complete the form, you will receive further details about logistics and lodging from NFB.

As you know, the issue of rideshare discrimination continues to have a significant and negative impact on blind people, especially those of us who are guide dog handlers, who want, need, and deserve to go about our daily lives with independence and dignity. We also recognize that your decision about whether to attend a rally is a very personal one. Our goal in sending this email is to provide you with information and to let you know The Seeing Eye’s intention to be represented. Again, if you have specific questions about the logistics of the rally, please direct them to the NFB. AS always, feel free to reach out to us at 973-539-4425 or at advocacy at seeingeye.org with your advocacy questions.

Thank you,

Dave Johnson and Melissa Allman

The Seeing Eye
