The latest statistics on Americans with Disabilities

January 29, 2019, 2:00 - 2:30pm (EST)

Cornell research found that in 2017, 37.3% of working-age (21-64) people with disabilities were employed, compared with the 79.4% of people without disabilities. Moreover, over a quarter of working-age Americans with disabilities lived in poverty, compared to one in ten persons without disabilities. These serious discrepancies continue to separate Americans with disabilities from their peers without disabilities. The importance of these statistics to the process of developing and maintaining policies that relate to people with disabilities in the United States cannot be overstated.

WHAT:  Cornell University's Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability (YTI) will host a free online webinar to present the findings from the 2017 Disability Status Report. This free webinar will explore data from the recently released 2017 American Community Survey (ACS) related to disability and employment, education, poverty, household income and annual earnings.

WHO: The information presented will have relevant to policy analysts and policy makers, disability advocates, government representatives, educators, researchers, the media, individuals with disabilities and their family members, workforce development professionals, and the general public.
