[NFBOK-Talk] Next step on bills

This has been a learning process for all of us. Please do not be unencouraged by the passage of HB2230 or SB733. We have learned that this is a 2 year process and not just a 1 year. Whatever does not get heard this year will get heard next year and the bills are left off where they are this year. Even though we did not like the vote from the house and senate, we still have many chances to kill both. This is what we need to happen! It will be up to us to get them both stopped! A bill that does not have a title has more steps to go through in getting it approved by both houses because it cannot go to the Governor’s desk without a title. Bills can still be killed in committee or on the legislative floors. We need to find key players that are willing to stand up for us and ask and answer questions that we were not allowed to give.

One of the things some of us have learned at disability awareness day is .... if you really want to talk to your house and senate reps, you need to do this of a morning from 8:00 to 12:00. After that they are out to lunch and then in session. Visit their rooms of a morning and spend the afternoon with the others at Disability awareness day!

I am attaching the House rep contact, the senate contact and also a contact for possible senate committees that might get HB2230. I’ll be more than willing to find the committees that might get SB733.

We need to get a question and answer list together to help those that are willing to fight for us. I’ll be starting that list this weekend for HB2230. Who is willing to help with SB733? We need more than 1 person doing it because it will help in making sure our voice is heard. We also need to form educational facts sheets about our programs. We need all this before Tuesday in folders to hand to our reps. Short time. Who is willing to take on these tasks to get the work done?

We need more visits, more phone calls and more e-mails. If you rest, we’ll lose both bills. It is up to each of us individually how bad we want to stop these bills!
