[NFBP-Talk] Amazon Smile for NFB of PA

I would like to put this into perspective. More than 10 years ago, when I was president of the affiliate, I was approached by Amazon to add our group name to the donation list. First, to correct Brian’s last email, we receive .5 percent of all sales that are made. I am sure that Amazon would like us to advertise for them, but we do not do so. The .5 percent of each sale means that we receive 50 cents on a $100 purchase. This is not an additional charge to any customer, but a gift from the company. Any person who chooses not to purchase goods from Amazon, for any reason, is entitled to their opinion and the NFB of Pennsylvania makes no attempt to change their mind on this matter. However, many people do use Amazon and, if they do not choose the NFB of Pa as the charity that receives a donation, then it is possible that no donation will be made to any organization and thus, Amazon will keep the money as profit.

Our attitude has been that, if a company is willing to share some of its profit, no matter how small, we are willing to accept it. Remember that every dollar we receive is a dollar for which we did not need to work. All I know is that there are many other organizations that may be less deserving of the funds. Our present leadership uses donations to help blind members in many ways and we should applaud them for their good use of the funds.

President Emeritus

I want to clarify how much Amazon gives to an organization from your transaction. It is 0.05% of the total sale, not $0.05. So if your total sale is $100, $0.50 will go to the charitable organization you have selected.

I hope that clarifies things. If you still choose not to shop via Amazon, I respect your decision.

I STOPPED USING AMAZON SMILE WHEN I REALIZED THEY ARE ONLY DONATING $.05 OF EVERY PURCHASE TOWARDS A CHARITY.

Thanks Emily for sharing this with us. For those of us who are looking for additional ways to support our NFB we now have another way to do it.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a portion of an email I received this morning…

Dear Emily Gindlesperger,

This is the quarterly notification to inform you that AmazonSmile has made a charitable donation to the charity you’ve selected, National Federation of the Blind of PA, in the amount of $39.60 as a result of qualifying purchases made by you and other customers between January 1st-March 31st.

Thanks to customers shopping at <https://smile.amazon.com/gp/f.html?C=1MEMLUYYNQ976&K=1JE40ZHRGMNZQ&M=urn:rtn:msg:202208151609029cd8115d75df4ef78517ea3272b0p0na&R=26EIXTBI8GW0D&T=C&U=https%3A%2F%2Fsmile.amazon.com%2Fref%3Dpe_8705550_658065640_smi_em_l1_sml_disb_active_eng_mkt&H=7IVUZAMKA5PCENZZRVYDOMHBCAKA&ref_=pe_8705550_658065640_smi_em_l1_sml_disb_active_eng_mkt> smile.amazon.com or using the Amazon app with AmazonSmile turned ON, everyday purchases make an impact.

…Isn’t that awesome! I did nothing but purchase items I needed for the house and for Angelina going back to school and AmazonSmile sent a portion of my qualifying purchases to the affiliate!!

All you need to do is go to www.smile.amazon.com <http://www.smile.amazon.com> , register or create your Amazon account then pick National Federation of the Blind of PA. When you shop, go through the www.smile.amazon.com <http://www.smile.amazon.com> or like the email said the Amazon App with AmazonSmile turned ON then Amazon will do the rest!!

Every little bit helps and we greatly appreciate the support!!

Emily W. Gindlesperger

2nd Vice President

National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania
