Description
The Vice President of Blindness Initiatives will be responsible for
securing state and federal funding for Visual Interpreting Services.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of disability
rights, regulations, and policies, and have a proven track record of
securing government funding for disability rights initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Secure state and federal funding for Visual Interpreting Services.
* Advance the general recognition of visual interpreting as an
assistive technology.
* Demonstrate empathy for / lived experience as a person with a
disability, and respect for cultural and philosophical differences
within the broad community.
* Exhibit a commitment to the advancement of independence of blind
and low vision people in education, workforce and community.
* Build and manage a team of advocates for visual interpretation funding.
* Monitor and analyze disability rights laws, regulations, and policies.
* Represent the organization in meetings with government officials
and other stakeholders.
* Develop and deliver engaging and accessible presentations to a
variety of audiences.
Requirements
* Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding benefits
and services for people with disabilities.
* Working knowledge of disability rights and resources.
* Experience in data-driven research techniques.
* Solid knowledge of human services delivery systems.
* The flexibility, accountability, and team-orientation needed to
succeed in a small organization, which involves both partnering with
others and working independently without close oversight.
* At least eight (8) years of experience in disability rights
advocacy, policy, or related field.
* Proven track record of securing funding for disability rights initiatives.
* Excellent leadership and management skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in
a fast-paced environment.
