Good evening everyone,

Below is the report of the minutes of the August 15 Chapter meeting. You can
also go to http://www.nfbsatx.org/members/minutes/min08-09.html to read
these same minutes. There are also links to download the minutes, but I'll
let you read those directions on your own.

I will be sending the minutes probably for the rest of the year. After
the first of the year, I will just send you the link to the minutes on the
Chapter Web site. If you have any corrections, please send them to me off
list or save them for discussion during the monthly meetings. Enjoy!

SECRETARY'S REPORT

NFB of Texas

San Antonio Chapter

August 15, 2009

President Jos`e Martinez called the meeting to order at 1:08
P.M. Six members were present.

First, the Chapter listened to Presidential Release #375, which
summarized the completion of the mortgage by BLIND, Inc., the signing of the
Convention of Rights for Persons with Disabilities, Youth Slam activities,
the March for Independence and Louis Braille coin activities, the BELL
(Braille Education Through Literacy and Learning) Program, and some jokes
dealing with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Discussion followed about the BELL Program.

The state convention will be October 23-25.

Discussion followed about the Chapter lunch on August 8.

The game night will be on Friday, September 25, from six to nine
P.M., at Cindy Garcia's and Sarah Litzler's apartment, 6130 Ingraham Road,
Apartment 1901, Hilltop Oaks Apartments.

Cindy Garcia has not heard from WalMart, but plans to call the
location on Southwest Military for a Meet the Blind Month Activity and
fund-raising.

Bryan Baldwin suggested having a fundraising activity at Sam's
Club. Cindy will call both WalMart and Sam's.

There will be a fundraising activity at Taco Cabana, 3310 San
Pedro Avenue, on Tuesday, August 25, from seven to nine P.M. There will be a
receipt space. Sarah Litzler's father has offered to make the NFB banner.
For the Taco Cabana activity, there will be a poster for advertising.
Members will hand out fliers.

Discussion followed about selling World's Finest Chocolate or
Regal's Popcorn. Sarah Litzler offered to contact Regal's Popcorn to donate.

Mary Donahue suggested the AccessAbility Fest at the Institute
of Texan Culture to be held in October as a possible Meet the Blind Month
activity. She will study the Texas Public Radio Web site after September 1.

Bryan Baldwin suggested selling raffle tickets during the state
convention for a Louis Braille coin. The drawing would take place after the
San Antonio Chapter report during the convention. There will be further
discussion at the next meeting.

Mary Donahue presented "My Role in the Education of Blind
Students," a talk which described her work as a Braille proofreader at
Education Service Center, Region 20. She presented this same talk at the
2008 NFB of Missouri state convention in St. Louis, Missouri, in March,
2008. A few questions and comments followed her talk.

The meeting adjourned at 2:03 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Donahue, Acting Secretary
