Good morning;

Back in January I sent an invite to the head of Human Capital, the Commanders Initiatives Group, and our EEO representative to attend the NFB National Convention. The command is in the process of expanding their horizons with respect to hiring new employees and I invited them because there is no better place to find Blind people with high expectations than the National Federation of the Blind. At the time I was told that their recruitment schedule was full for the year and they would not be able to attend, but as luck would have it COVID-19 happend and we had our first virtual national convention.

I am pleased to tell you that they not only attended, but that they thoroughly enjoyed the convention and invited me to have a conversation about Blindness and what were some things that they could do to make their organization more inclusive of Blind people.

I have to say that I have worked for this command for almost 10 years and I finally am seeing some impact. I am hoping that this conversation leads to more opportunities for Blind people to serve their country as DoD civilians, and that they will have greater careers and opportunities to serve than I have had.
