Folks, I have included our meeting minutes in the body of this
message. Listserves cannot process attachments. April 2021, San
Antonio Chapter Meeting Minutes

While we waited for our speaker, Bryan read the treasurers report.
Amelia gave the Newsline report and indicated that we had no new
sign-ups that we are aware of, because most chose to use the nfb of
Texas survey link on the website. However, we did meet and network at
the low vision expo fare with a person whose son had gone blind so we
were able to provide her resources.
As well as several folks have reached out on social media or through
the nfb of Texas to learn more about our Chapter.
Amelia gave the legislative report and explained that years of work
resulted in the successful passage of the pedestrian safety
enhancement act. Additionally, we have gained several new sponsors in
the adaptive technology affordability act from both the senate and
house. Finally, the for the people legislation was modified to include
greater voting sight requirements for a second additional computer
with screen reader software for your assistive ballot. The bill would
also require additional training on the setup and operation of these
machines, so that poll workers are prepared.
Finally, the remainder of our meeting will be occupied by a speaker
from the Texas able program, and she will speak to us about set up of
a long-term savings or investment account, which will allow blind
Texans to prepare for their futures and continue to receive monthly
benefits assistance.

Please note! That the material of this presentation is of a highly
technical nature, and so any information regarding the specifics of
financial planning will not be shared in these minutes. Members are
encouraged to listen to the able presentation web&r that was uploaded
to group me and social media if they could not attend the meeting.
Please note, that our presenter works for the Texas controller of
public accounts, and cannot provide any specific information about
social security benefits counseling, or medicate/Medicare, as it
pertains to able planning.
