Hello,
My name is Faiza and I am on the outreach team for the Seattle Waterfront
program <https://waterfrontseattle.org/>. We haven’t met with the
accessibility roundtable in a while but plan to meet with your group in
December or January to discussion this outreach opportunity and other
aspects of the program.
As you may have heard, Pier 58
<https://waterfrontseattle.org/waterfront-projects/pier-58>, located
between the Aquarium and Pier 57, is currently being removed and that work
is anticipated to finish in early 2021. At the same time, the pier is being
redesigned to create a public park with improved access, safety, and a
flexible space for programming. The new pier park is being designed with
families and young children in mind, with a 5, 000 sq ft playground, spaces
to relax and a public plaza that will be programmed by Friends of
Waterfront Seattle <https://waterfrontparkseattle.org/>. Construction of
the new pier is anticipated to begin in late 2022.
*We want to hear from you! *
Due to COVID precautions, all our engagement for this new pier will be
virtual this year through an online open house
<https://pier58.participate.online/?utm_source=CommunityOrgs&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Pier58Feedback>
that will be open through *Dec. 6*. It is available in Chinese
<http://pier58-chinese.participate.online/?utm_source=CommunityOrgs&utm_medium=ChineseFlyer&utm_campaign=Pier58Feedback>,
Spanish
<http://pier58-spanish.participate.online/?utm_source=CommunityOrgs&utm_medium=SpanishFlyer&utm_campaign=Pier58Feedback>
and Somali
<http://pier58-somali.participate.online/?utm_source=CommunityOrgs&utm_medium=SomaliFlyer&utm_campaign=Pier58Feedback>
as well. We’ve created a video overview of the new design (there is also an
accessible PDF available) and there is an opportunity to provide feedback
on the overall pier design, playground, restroom and future programming.
The playground and an adjacent restroom are in very early stages of
development.
We would love to get your organization’s feedback and your help to promote
this feedback opportunity in your communities. We want to hear what would
make you feel welcomed and at home in this space, and value your input. We
have attached a flyer that you are welcome to use to share this event. If
there is anyone else that we should reach out to, please let us know.
Thanks,
Faiza
