Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

Today, I'm joining the people across our nation grieving another senseless,
racist act. The violence targeting Asian and Asian-American people - at spas
in Atlanta, on the streets of Seattle and other areas, online and in media -
is rooted in xenophobia, misogyny, and racism. While the latest surge of
violence is undoubtedly fostered by language and action of recent years that
seem to give permission for these heinous acts, the roots that give rise to
it are deep and long-standing. I stand with Asian and Asian-American
residents of King County, and call for an end to these acts of violence
against our family, friends, and neighbors.

Vaccine and COVID-19 Updates

You may have seen the flurry of news recently about changes to vaccine
availability and eligibility, the current phase of Governor Inslee's Roadmap
to Recovery Plan, and more. With such rapid changes, I want to provide you
with the latest resources you can use to navigate our recovery from
COVID-19. While we are making progress, it is vital that we all keep doing
the things we have been doing - wear a face covering when out in public,
physically distance when you are in proximity to someone who lives outside
of your household, maintain hygiene practices, and encourage your loved ones
to do the same. 

Current and Upcoming Vaccine Eligibility 

Every effort is being made to reach residents who are currently eligible,
and I am glad to share that even more King County residents being eligible
for vaccination. However, we are still facing a vaccine supply that isn't
yet able to meet the demand and should expect this to be the case for some
time.

Businesses like restaurants, museums, and gyms will be permitted up to 50%
occupancy, and events at outdoor venues, like high school sports, can
welcome back spectators. I hope this is positive news for our small business
owners who are weathering the burden of these restrictions to keep our
communities healthy and safe. 

To keep these businesses open and keep our state moving forward, it is more
important than ever to wear a mask, maintain proper social distancing, and
stay home if you are feeling unwell. 

Return to In-Person Learning

for learning. Younger students must be offered a hybrid option earlier - by
