Subject: nondriver panelists needed for Week Without Driving Webinar Miniseries: Mobility for Nondrivers in Rural and Small Cities
Hi Cecelia and Anna,
I'm gearing up for the National Week Without Driving event in Washington state I've committed to. I'm looking for 4-5 nondrivers from rural regions in Washington state to serve as panelists on webinar on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 12-1:30. I have a small budget to pay selected panelists $75 stipends each. See below for background on the webinar and what I'm asking of panelists. Hoping you can circulate this on the DMI listserv. And, if there is anyone in your statewide network you think you can help connect me to nondrivers in rural areas and small cities, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Panelists should live in rural communities in Washington state and be nondrivers. I'll select panelists to represent diverse rural regions of the state to the extent response makes that possible. I'll provide in advance the short list of questions that I'll ask panelists to be prepared to respond to during the webinar. ***Anyone interested in serving as a panelist can e-mail me here with a short note about where they live, and a couple of lines about how they usually get around for transportation and mobility.***
Background:
Organizers of the Week Without Driving have consistently heard how near-impossible it can be for leaders in rural regions to participate. While that challenge is at the heart of the NWWD, this webinar miniseries aims to give those leaders an opportunity to hear directly from nondrivers from rural communities and small cities around the state without the significant commitment of going a full week without driving. This webinar invites such leaders:
- to hear from a panel of nondrivers from rural and small cities across WA state about their experiences navigating our transportation system
- to ask questions of nondrivers
- a chance to learn some of what leaders might garner from participating in the NWWD.
I will invite attending leaders to participate in some modified form of the WWD, including attending events organized around the state, such as Hopelink's Lunch with Driving event in the Snoqualmie Valley. And I'll invite those leaders to participate in a post-NWWD webinar Wednesday, Oct. 8, 12-1:30 where they will discuss their experience and learnings during those NWWD events. Panelists from the September webinar are invited to attend the post-NWWD webinar, but that's optional as I plan to record it.
Once I've started to identify panelists, I will probably prioritize inviting electeds and other leaders from those regions to participate in the webinar (but won't limit invites to just them).
Thanks!
Kimberly Huntress-Inskeep
