The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) is recruiting for the Administrator
for the Orientation Center for the Blind (OCB) in Albany, California. The
OCB Administrator is responsible for the overall management and operational
activities of the OCB residential training program for DOR consumers who are
blind/visually impaired. The OCB Administrator is responsible for planning,
organizing, directing, and evaluating policies and practices governing the
administrative, program services and facility operations of OCB to ensure
the successful preparation of OCB participants to achieve independence and
competitive integrated employment.

 

The OCB Administrator reports to the Deputy Director of the Specialized
Services Division in DOR. The DOR works in partnership with consumers and
other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy resulting in employment,
independent living, and equality for individuals with disabilities.  

 

Essential information

*      The position classification is Staff Services Manager II -
Supervisory (SSM II) with a monthly base salary range of $6,722.00 -
$8,352.00. The job link for this position, which provides the

*      The incumbent will be hired using the SSM II eligible list. The SSM
II minimum qualifications include four years of increasingly responsible
management, personnel, fiscal, planning, program evaluation, or other
related analytical experience, or one year of California state service
performing management duties or 2 years of more complex analytical duties.

*      While not a requirement for the SSM II exam, pursuant to section
19503 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the OCB Administrator
position requires proficiency in Braille and four years of full-time, paid
experience working in a program for the education or rehabilitation of
adults who are blind, with emphasis on nonvisual living techniques,
including but not limited to, daily living, mobility, and communication
skills, of which at least two years' experience must be in a supervisory or
administrative capacity. 

*      Those who are not already working in state government at the SSM II
level must be on the SSM II eligibility list or take the SSM II examination.


*      When completing the state application (STD678), Braille proficiency
should be indicated in the response to the language "written fluency"
question in section 5(b).

 

This position will be open until filled; however, DOR anticipates the
screening of submitted applications to begin Friday, February 14, 2020
