Hello and hope all is doing great.  Below you will find the June meeting
minutes.  If anyone has any clarifications or questions feel free to reach

has difficulty processing things, lives with a mental disability

Secretary Report 

*         May minutes were sent out to the list serve 

*         Motion was made by Lisa and all approved of secretary report

 

Treasurer Report  

*         As a total we currently have $1, 094.43

*         Every month ten dollars will be transferred to avoid any service
fees

*         Every month ten dollars goes toward the PAC plan

*         This month we also donated $75 for door prizes for national
Convention

*         Motion was made by Sheri and all approved of Treasurer report

 

Presidential Release Recap.

*         This month was the 506 release and transcripts will be available
in Spanish and English soon but you can listen to it on YouTube

*         This is the twentieth anniversary of a blind person to climb Mount
Everest

*          There is a Hellen Keller Doll from Target that now has Braille
labeled on their packaging

*         During the Maryland promo video for national convention all
members introduced themselves with their pronouns Which related to our
Diversity Equity and Inclusion 

*         There will be a concert during convention and tickets will cost
twenty dollars, and there will also be a comedy night as well

*         If you are hosting a party for banquet night you can announce it
on the convention page and can be entered in to a raffle for a prize of crab
cakes from the Maryland host and also may get a visit during the banquet
from convention

*         There is a new chair of the LGBTQ division and they host a weekly
zoom call, thanks to Ty Thompson and welcome in the new chair San Ho, if you
want to join there is a private list serv and a private Facebook group

*         Bell Academy will be having their second session on August 19th
and the deadline to register is July 10th  

*            There is a guide for blind parents to assist with accessible
tools for school, with advice for support in School, can be found at
blindparents.org, and is available in both English and Spanish

*         If you have experienced any work discriminations with Amazon or
NTi involving any unpaid leave or denial of any accommodations you are
encouraged to reach out to the NFB legal affairs team to Valerie Yingling
atvalerieyingling at nfb.org     

*         All members are encouraged to sign up for the PAC plan to donate
to the NFB, and there is also an option with the Dream Maker's plan to
contribute donations once passed  

*         Today may have been the deadline to submit resolutions

*         All convention events will be able to be streamed from an Alexa
device and all you have to say is to play nation's blind 

*         There will be no release in July and the next one will be August
2nd 

 

Legislative Announcements

*         Our NFB President would like us to have 25 percent sponsorship of
the Access Technology Affordability Act HR 431 or S 212   

*         So far we have 86 co-sponsors in House and20 in the Senate and our
goal is to have 109 in the House and 25 in the Senate  

*         The next couple of weeks purpose is to get access technology
affordability act included in the American jobs act

*         All members are encouraged to call their member if known or you
can call the capitol switch board and they can find the number, their number
is 202-224-3121 to help us get more co-sponsors   

*         Senator John Boon has made an amendment to the autonomous vehicles
regarding the Endless Frontier Act

 

Chapter Announcements

*         Jaime is so happy and appreciative of those who called her during
her hernia surgery, she is 70 percent recovered 

 

Member Announcements

*         Jeff announcing that on June 25th from 1-4 PM Lighthouse will be
having select the Right Tech all about apps, it is free but you must
register, you can email at at lighthouse-sf.org 

*         Lisa and Laura were featured in the Braille Monitor for two great
articles

*         Sheri announcing on Thursday it will be Lighthouse Day to
celebrate 119thdays, it will be this Thursday June 10th from 12-1 Pm and you

Discussion 

*         National Convention will happen from July 6-10 and will be
virtual, it will be streaming on Alexa devices, and YouTube

*         There is no real agenda yet but there is an overall idea of what
will take place

*         On Tuesday there will be seminars, and meetings for specialized
divisions

*         For Wednesday there will be a big board meeting and resolutions 

*         For Thursday there will be meetings and opening session

*         For Friday there will be presidential general session 

*         For Saturday there will be a business meeting, and banquet

*         If this is your first convention join us on June 29 530 pacific on
Zoom for rookie roundup to walk through the agenda of the convention

*         There will be a concierge help desk and one can email them at

*         If you did not register in time you can still attend convention

*         Plan for ahead of time June 15th if interested someone can be your
convention buddy to break the ice and help answer questions, email
rookie at nfb.org or 410 659 9314 2020 extension 410, please include name,
phone number, state from and a few things you want the mentor to know to
match 

*         There will be a Presidential suite to talk about things, and our
National President riccobono will be there sometimes

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

*         It is national pride awareness month and we are celebrating 69
years

*         It is not just about pride it is also about people of all races,
gender, and other issues that bring us together and celebrate 

*         There are ten principles of justice 

Two important answering question

One varies first intersectionality- do not let single issues arise not
because we are blind and have other things we deal with 

*         Second understanding cross movement realizing if movement around
something education or health

There is a long acronym that is referred to as Lgbtquiaz plus

*           L is for lesbian which is love for another woman

*         G is for love for another man sexually, romantically, and
physically

*         B is for bi sexual meaning love for a man or woman 

*         T is for Tran sexual meaning one's sex not assigned as born 

*         Q is for quer a umbrella term that falls out of the norm that one
was raised as

*         I am for intersex which is physical genetic sex associated with a
person male or female

Not normal

*         A is for a sexual which involve people having a lack of attraction
sexually romantically and emotionally

*         Gender identity goes under gender binary a system gender
constructed in categories, Male or female categories assumption your gender
identity mass match sex by birth 

 

Bobbi made amotion to adjourn the meeting, Jim seconded the motion, and all
approved.
