Secretary Report 

*         January Meeting Minutes were sent to the list serve

*         Motion was made by Sheri, Jaime second the motion, and all
approved of secretary report

 

Treasurer Report  

*         Currently we have $926.60

*         Transferring ten dollars every month to avoid fees to our account

*         If anyone wants to pay dues and is using PayPal or venmo please
use this information to pay:  Sara Hadsell, 510-387-0766

needs to pay with a different mode, please email sara or call her

*         if you prefer to mail a check is: 585 9th St, Oakland, CA 94607.

*         If paying by PayPal, you must do it on a computer, which is where
you can select that you are paying a friend, rather than purchasing an item.
The PayPal phone app is set up for commercial purchases.

*         If someone needs to use another method of payment, they should
contact Sara directly,

*         Motion was made by Sheri, Jeff second the motion, and all approved
of the treasurer report 

 

Presidential Release Recap


*         This month's presidential release was live from Washington Seminar

*         In January we celebrated the life of a great Federation loss of
Scott Labar

*         On capitol Hill promoting Congress 118

*         February is Black history month, shouted out black association of
black leaders, discuss black and Blindness issues

*         First time Washington Seminar had a full turnout in person in
three years, had delegation from all states participate 

*         Teachers from tomorrow helped NFB advocate for NFB legislative
priorities

*         Emphasized The History of the voice of the nation blind be
respected and serves full participation in Capitol since 1973, it was the
first march in Washington Seminar event and has taken place every year since


*         The NFB is Gathering funds to build a museum of blind members
movement, in progress, currently have 2 million in pledges  

*         All members are encouraged to stay in contact with their local
representatives as well as Congress 118 to keep pushing for NFB legislative
priorities

*         National convention will take place in Houston, Texas from July
1-6, more details to come soon

 

Legislative Announcements

*         No legislative announcements this month

*         No chapter member attendance at Washington Seminar

 

Announcements

*         National convention will take place from July 1-6 in Houston,
Texas, all information can be found at NFB.org

*         There will be two hotels, Hilton America's of Houston or Marriott
Marque,  hotels are $119 per night plus taxes, information on how to book
the hotel is located on nfb.org on the convention page

*         There is a Kenneth Journigan, scholarship funds are available for
those who are joining the convention in person for the first time,
applications will also be on the convention page at nfb.org

*         Bobbi proposed an idea to keep virtual meetings and include a
social gathering every month, Sara made a motion, Monica second the motion
and all approved, if members have ideas for social outings, please let Bobbi
know

*         Monica agrees to be event planner committee leader, Rochelle also
will input ideas 

*         We will have a member outreach drive one time during a social
gathering to connect with members of the past to rejoin our chapter

*         Members are being asked to participate to table at the Foundation
Finding Blindness Vision Walk at Golden gate park on Saturday may 13th, if
interested let any board member know

 

Discussion

*         Elections will be taking place tonight, members wanting to run for
any open position, vote, or nominate any member must have paid dues by now,
we will use a voice vote and if needed go to hand raising

*         Bobbi giving a great thank you to those on board not running for
re election

*         First position-First vice president for a one-year position

*         Amy nominated Christina for first vice president, Christina
accepts nomination, Amy made a motion to cease nomination and move to vote
Christina by acclamation, Jaime second the motion, and all approved

*         Second position is second vice president for a one-year term

*         Sheri nominated Laura for second vice president, Laura accepts
nomination, Monica   made a motion to cease nomination and move to vote
Laura by acclamation, Christina second the motion, and all approved 

*         Third position is treasurer for a two-year term

*         Jaime nominated Sara for treasurer, Sara accepts nomination,
Rochelle made a motion to cease nomination and move to vote Sara by
acclamation, Jeff second the motion, and all approved

*         Fourth position is secretary for a two-year term

*         Sheri nominated Monica for secretary, Monica accepts nomination,
Amy made a motion to cease nomination and move to vote Monica by
acclamation, Jaime second the motion and all approved

*         Fifth position is first board member for a two-year term

*         Laura nominates Serena for first board member, Serena accepts
nomination, Monica made a motion to cease nomination and move to vote Serena
by acclamation, Jaime second the motion, and all approved 

*         Sixth position is second board position for a two-year term

*         No nominations for second board position, do not need to fill at
the moment, if anyone has a desire to fill the position let Bobbi know and
she can appoint a member for the position later

*         Welcome new board members!

 

Diversity Equity and Inclusion Discussion

*         Had a hard time brainstorming a topic for this month

*         Black history month

*         Dennis Billups, black blind musician, played a big part of
movement in San Francisco with cross disability movement in 19710's and sit
in on capital federal building staged sit-in, sang a long time during the
sit-

ins, provided relief to people in a miserable boring situation, his music
helped bring a sense of community, created choral chants, ended Krip camp by
singing in his car

*         People like Dennis Billups get lack of representation for the
great amazing work they do, lack of representation, need to do better

 

Bell Ringers

*         Jaime started grad school a month ago, surviving, she has not been
in school for seven years

*          LM giving kudos to Sheri for hosting a great Lighthouse workshop,
amazing interview that was on the news, impacted lots of people, will have
another workshop stay tuned for details

*         Bobbi happy to report that she had surgery during the last chapter
meeting and survived

 

Please stay after and hang out with other chapter members

 

Christina made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Jaime second the motion, and
all approved.

 

It has been a great pleasure to serve as your NFB SF chapter secretary for
the past two years.  As always if anyone has questions please feel free to
