Dear SF Affiliate Chapter Members,
I am sorry this email is going out so late, but I wanted to let people know
we will be tabling at tomorrow’s Foundation Fighting Blindness Vision Walk,
representing the San Francisco affiliate of the National Federation of the
Blind (NFB). We are looking for volunteers/chapter members to join us.
Please come and help us share the positive messages and philosophies around
blindness and the NFB. Join us on May 18 between 8:30 AM and 12:00 PM at
the following address:
Golden Gate Park Music Concourse Bandshell
75 Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr
San Francisco, CA 94118
While the Foundation Fighting Blindness can be controversial, it's
important that we are there to represent the NFB. This is a great
opportunity to connect with the community and highlight the different
opportunities available to blind individuals. Our presence is crucial in
spreading our positive outlook on blindness.
As I shared at our recent chapter meeting, for the first seven years of
being blind, I was deeply involved in raising money for the Foundation
Fighting Blindness. I lived for the day when a cure would allow me to drive
my convertible across the country again! Now, 20 years later, I am
incredibly grateful to have found NFB and to be living a more positive life
as a blind person.
Through the interactions I've had with our local San Francisco chapter, and
the individual conversations I've had over the years—sometimes staying up
until the wee hours of the morning discussing and debating different
philosophies—my life has changed profoundly. These experiences have given
me a deep sense of purpose, and it means a lot to be able to return and
table at this event.
I am thrilled to be back in the area and would love to hear about other
outreach opportunities that you would like to see our chapter at! So please
let us know your thoughts and where you want to see ourpresence!
Additionally, please save the date for June 15 at 1:00 PM. We will be
getting together at Drake’s Dealership in downtown Oakland. The address is:
Drake’s Dealership
2325 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94612
Depending on the weather and the energy on June 15, some of us might take a
walk around Lake Merritt, and I would love to gauge people’s interest in
that as well.
Please let me know if you can make it to either the Vision Walk tomorrow or
the gathering at Drake’s Dealership by RSVPing to this email or texting me
at 925-321-8804 so I can get an accurate headcount for the reservation.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and at future events!
Best regards,
