> Hi all,
>
> The Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes DC team (MWABA) will have goalball practice this Saturday, October 20, from 10 AM-1 PM at the Columbia Heights Community Center at 1480 Girard St. NW, but there will not be practice next Saturday, October 27. Next Saturday the rec center is closed for an election event. So come get your goalball on this week!

> Come to Great Falls for a Guided Hike
> This Sunday, October 21, back by popular demand, we will be having our second annual guided hike at Great Falls National Park, with a picnic afterwards. Those who participated in this event last year had a great time walking through the woods getting vivid descriptions of the surrounding area, history and ecology from knowledgeable NPS rangers. You will also have a chance to feel, smell and otherwise experience local plant and even animal life, so come prepared for an adventure! And after we’re done with our hike, we’ll gather at the picnic shelters for some food and fun conversation.
>
> The event will run from 2 PM until sunset when the park closes, but you can leave earlier if you don’t want to stay for the picnic. To make sure we have a group that is not too large and unwieldy for the rangers to work with, we need to cap this event at 15 participants, so if you’re interested in attending, please RSVP right away to karla.gilbride at gmail.com. I’ll send additional details about the event to those who RSVP. When you RSVP, please let me know if you would like a sighted guide to accompany you on the hike, so we can make sure to have enough guides on hand for everyone who would like one.

> Big Blind Poker Night on October 23
> Also back by popular demand, it’s Big Blind Poker Night! We took a hiatus for a while after our old stand-by location of Parlay went out of business, but we’ve found a new host and are excited to hold our next poker game at Buffalo Billiards on Tuesday, October 23 starting at 6 PM. As always, we will have braille and large print cards and tactile poker chips to make the game fun and accessible for everyone. We request $20 from all who attend the event, whether or not you choose to play, and all proceeds benefit MWABA’s programs including our growing fleet of tandem bikes and plans for our next goalball tournament in early 2019. And of course there will be prizes for the three people who finish the night with the most chips! Let us know you’re coming, and let the pre-game trash talk begin, on the event Facebook page here: https://facebook.com/events/244617426205429?refid=52&__tn__=C-R
> And please share the event with your friends and networks.
>
> That’s all for this edition of the newsletter. Until next time, have fun and stay active!
