Subject: Honk Honk! Vehicle Donation Drivers: Idea Starters Recap

We have just finished the fall NFB State Convention season!

Many of you promoted our new vehicle donation program at your conventions.

Over the last several months, I have been sending out Idea Starters to promote this program.

I am sending you a summary of these ideas in order to drive this program further.

Please use these to shift our program into overdrive.

Remember you can order more promotional materials by contacting Joanne Wilson at jwilson at nfb.org and find more ideas to advertise the program by visiting https://nfb.org/vehicle-donation-materials.

Honk Honk! Thanks for helping steer this project down the road to success!

Key One: Order and use 4x6 vehicle donation stickers

· These can be ordered by emailing Joanne Wilson at jwilson at nfb.org. Please indicate how many stickers you would like. They are yellow and red 4x6 stickers that read: Wondering what to do with your old car or truck? Donating your vehicle to the National Federation of the Blind is convenient and may qualify you for a tax deduction. Call 1-855-659-9314 or visit www.carshelpingtheblind.org. Your donations can Take the Blind Further! Learn about blindness: www.nfb.org.

· Ask all of our members to take five stickers to be placed where the public can read them. Remind them that each sticker costs 10 cents, so we do not want to waste a Federation dime. They should ask permission to put the stickers in such places as beauty and barber shops, gas station pumps, vending machines, cash registers in places of business, grocery stores, retirement homes, car repair shops, public bulletin boards, banks, dry cleaners, or anywhere they frequent. Remind them that by taking five minutes to do this they can help “drive the blind further.”

Key Two: Put information about our vehicle donation program on the back of local and state raffle tickets. This information should be on the part that is given back to the purchaser of the ticket.

· Possible wording: Wondering what to do with your old car or truck? Donating your vehicle to the National Federation of the Blind is convenient and may qualify you for a tax deduction. Call 1-855-659-9314 or visit www.carshelpingtheblind.org. Your Donation can Take the Blind Further!

Key Three: YouTube and other materials

We now have a YouTube video for the vehicle donation program that features four of our rock star blind children! Here is a link to the video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVn7jbP6Iyw&feature=youtu.be. You can use this video on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. All you have to do is copy the link and paste it on your social media pages.

Key Four: Guest speaker at your chapter meetings to recruit more "drivers" for the vehicle donation program.

· At our national convention many of you heard about our vehicle donation program and received stickers to help promote the program. For those not able to attend the convention, we can get one of our “lead drivers” to speak by conference call at your local chapter meetings. We might even be able to have the familiar Honk Honk available during these calls!

· Please let Joanne Wilson know if you would like to schedule a speaker by contacting her at jwilson at nfb.org or 410-659-9314 x2335.

· Please have a speaker phone available.

Key Five: Craigslist

· Put our vehicle donation announcement in various places on Craigslist:

Wondering what to do with your old car or truck? Donating your vehicle to the National Federation of the Blind is convenient and may qualify you for a tax deduction. Call 1-855-659-9314 or visit www.carshelpingtheblind.org. Your donation can take the Blind Further!

· This announcement can be placed in many places on Craigslist; examples are for sale, cars and trucks, general, motorcycles, boats, RVs. Do not place under “free,” it won’t be accepted. Craigslist walks you through how to post materials.

· These listings will need to be renewed every 45 days.

Key Six: Use someone else’s big list

· Anyone who delivers anything to businesses or to the general public can be approached to help get the word out locally

· Ask pizza delivery places to put flyers about our NFB vehicle donation program on their boxes

· Anyone with a large email list can be approached about putting something in their newsletter

· Schools and churches can put notices about the vehicle donation program through their communication networks

Key Seven: Meet the Blind Month Event Promotion

· Put up banners and signs promoting the vehicle donation program

· Make t-shirts advertising the vehicle donation program to wear during your Meet the Blind month events (or just stick the vehicle donation program sticker to a shirt you already have!)

· Have the vehicle donation program flyers, stickers, and orange inserts in a prominent location at all your events (Remember you can order all of these materials from the Meet the Blind month order form or by contacting Joanne Wilson at jwilson at nfb.org)

Key Eight: Rev Up Your Bragging Rights and Let the Race Begin!

The following states have now created some traffic in our vehicle donation program: Maryland (3), Iowa (2), California (2), Massachusetts (2), Washington (2), New York (2), West Virginia (1), Florida (1), Nebraska (1), Tennessee (1), New Jersey (1), Illinois (1), Pennsylvania (1), North Carolina (1), Mississippi (1), Virginia (1), Louisiana (1)

We would like your state to join the circuit from now until January 1, 2014 to start claiming bragging rights of your own. Each car on average is boosting our treasury about $500. We are racing towards the season of giving, so now is the time to push this program!

Key Nine: Poster Promotion!

In order to help you steer your Meet the Blind month activities towards successfully promoting the vehicle donation program, you can now download a 16x20 poster! Here’s how:

· Race to download the file (in black and white or color) by visiting nfb.org/vehicle-donation-materials.

· Take this file in to be printed off at your local copy or UPS Store.

· Proudly display the poster at all your exciting upcoming events!

The poster reads:

Vehicle Donations Take the Blind Further!

Wondering what to do with your old car or truck? Donating your vehicle to the National Federation of the Blind is convenient, easy, and may qualify you for a tax deduction and best of all; your donation of a used vehicle will ensure a brighter future for all blind children and adults. All you need to do is call 1-855-659-9314 or visitwww.carshelpingtheblind.org. We will arrange to have the donated vehicle picked up and towed and provide you with a tax-deductible receipt—all at no charge to you!

Key Ten: Rev up donations with Public Service Announcements!

Free PSAs are good way to get the word out about our vehicle donation program!

· PSAs can be on television, cable networks, public radio, commercial radio especially local stations, and community calendars.

· Some sample PSA’s can be found at http://nfb.org/vehicle-donation-materials.

· Some sample PSAs can be found at http://nfb.org/vehicle-donation-materials.

· Congratulations to Nebraska and Georgia who are already driving up donation with these radio spots!

Key Eleven: Rev Up Your Bragging Rights! Update!

We now have five new states who can now claim bragging rights in our vehicle donation race! Thirteen of you have increased the number of vehicles that have been donated in your state. Congratulations! Let’s keep going at full throttle!

The following states have now created some traffic in our vehicle donation program:

Alabama (3), Arkansas (1), California (4) ,Connecticut (2), Florida (1), Hawaii (3), Illinois (1), Iowa (2), Louisiana (3), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Mississippi (2), Nebraska (2), Nevada (1), New Jersey (2), New York (2), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (3), Rhode Island (1), Tennessee (2), Virginia (5), Washington (2), West Virginia (2), Wisconsin (1).
