The Greater Alexandria chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of
Virginia will hold its next meeting on Monday evening at 7:00pm EDT, April
24, in the club house of the Carlyle Place Apartments at 2251 Eisenhower
Ave, Alexandria, 22314. Please come and be a part of history as we launch a
new chapter in northern Virginia.

The evening's agenda will include electing the chapter's first officers and
board, adopting a constitution, and sharing ideas about future events and
activities that the chapter may undertake. Light refreshments will be on
hand, but feel free to bring your dinner, bring a friend, bring your ideas!
All are welcome.

For more information please feel free to call or text Brian Miller at
703-785-9929, or by email at brianrmiller88 at gmail.com. Directions from the
metro station follow, but please note there are also a number of buses that
can bring you right to the building.

See you April 24!

Directions from Eisenhower metro to the Carlyle Place Apartments at 2251
Eisenhower Ave:

The Yellow line is the only train that comes to Eisenhower Avenue Metro
station. If you are coming from Arlington or the District you will be
heading towards Huntington, and if from Huntington, toward Mt. Vernon
Square. Eisenhower Ave station is just one stop from the end of the line at
Huntington.

Take the elevator or steps down and simply walk straight ahead to the fare
gates and swipe your smart trip card to exit. Once through the fare gates
walk forward about 20 feet and turn right to go out the big iron gate – you
will pass a bus transfer machine on your right; just past that is the gate.
Continue walking straight until you hit the cross walk. Cross the service
road/bus lane and you will hit a sidewalk leading left. There are curb cuts
on each side of the crosswalk so you know how to line up. Follow that
sidewalk with the service road on your left; you are walking toward
Eisenhower Ave, so you should hear lots of traffic in front of you.

When you reach Eisenhower Avenue, just keep following the sidewalk around
to the right as it merges into Eisenhower Ave. Keep walking one block with
Eisenhower Avenue on your left, and grass on your right. When you get to
the end of that block there is a crosswalk signal button; it will be
ticking so you can find it. Push to button to engage the pedestrian
crossing signal. Turn to face Eisenhower so you can cross to the other side
when the signal starts ticking faster and louder. Cross Eisenhower to the
opposite side, then turn right to cross Mill Race, a two lane road now in
front of you that makes up the intersection you are navigating. Cross Mill
Race, with Eisenhower now on your right, and 2251 is the big building right
there on the next block.

Keep walking forward with the building on your left and the street on your
right. You will pass a few storefronts – the Uptown Market, Uptown Cleaner,
Top Coat nail Salon, and a hair salon and then the main entrance for the
Carlyle Place apartments is next. You may detect a metal heating grate on
your left just before reaching the front door – this is a good cue that you
are almost there.

There is a small lobby just as you enter the building, and a concierge at
the front desk who can help you if you have questions. To find the club
house where the meeting is, simply go to the left of the front desk, and
turn left down the hallway. Follow the hallway to the end and the elevators
are on the right. Go to the fourth floor and turn left out of the
elevators, then a quick left again and follow that hallway down to the club
house. The hallway makes a few partial lefts and rights, but it is only 40
feet or so, and the club house is right there. We will try to have people
watching out for one another, but feel free to call if you need help . My
mobile is 703-785-9929.

You may also consider taking an Uber or Lyft. If you do a shared ride, it
is rarely more than $6 from anywhere within greater Alexandria.
