Please consider applying to this exciting employment opportunity.
The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia (NFBV) is empowering blind
seniors with a variety of home management and life and advocacy skills
training opportunities.
We are launching a program benefiting up to 60 blind and low vision seniors
over the age of 55 by way of empowerment training built upon an extensive
track record of empowerment programs for seniors, students and adults
conducted in Virginia and across the country. These programs combine
alternative skills training, blind and low vision role models, and our
positive philosophy on blindness to deliver results to participants and a
long term connection to a peer network. The ideal candidate will be familiar
with the NFB's positive blindness philosophy and lean on it to have a
profound impact in the lives of blind seniors in Virginia.
This initiative, hosted in strategically chosen locations in Virginia, will
prepare blind and low-vision seniors to take control of their personal and
professional lives through direct and individualized attention based on
physical ability, personal skills, and goals. Preparation for the program
will commence in September and officially launch at the annual state
convention in Falls Church, October 29-31. At present, the program will be
administered over three weekends from January through March, but additional
funding is being sought, creating a potential to create a long-term program.
