In this session, you will hear an overview of the dynamic programs
available at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision
Impaired (“VRCBVI”). Staff will describe the classes they teach, and former
students will share stories of how participating in a residential skills of
blindness training program transformed their lives and gave them the
confidence to pursue their personal and career goals. Join us as we explore
what independence for a blind person can look like.Since VRCBVI's inception
in 1970, what changes have occurred in the skills blind people need to live
without limits and thrive at school, on the job, and in their communities?
What does it mean to accept one’s blindness? Is it possible for blind
individuals to take an active role at home and at work? Please join us to
hear about how VRCBVI is shattering stereotypes and building belief in the
abilities of blind people. Learn how you can help blind Virginians engage
actively in the world around them, go confidently in the direction of their
dreams, and live the lives they have imagined.
