Hello NFB Family and Friends,

Welcome to another edition of member to member! This week, we'll get to know
more about Deborah Jackson, from our Greater Williamsburg Chapter.

Before we get to Deborah, Daniel Perry, from our Winchester Chapter, wanted
me to clarify that he went to public school for his early education and
entered the VSDB school in his 8th grade year. He graduated from there in
2002. Thanks for the clarification Daniel.

Let's talk about Deborah, who has been a part of our NFBV Family for ten
years! She's been the chapter's secretary, on and off, since she joined. She
is a staunch advocate for our members and perspective members "my passion is
giving people the information they need to live the life they want!" "
Deborah puts her money where her mouth is.she has attended several Richmond
Seminars and has spoken of the needs of the blind. She has had fun and has
learned more about the NFB, what we do and how we do it, as an attendee of
National and State Conventions. She's the chair of the outreach committee
and is also on the BEAM Committee and has been on the nominating committee
and finance committee. Way to be involved Deborah! "One of my favorite
memories in the NFB was when I went to a National Convention in Texas and
saw thousands of blind people doing what blind people do; I was so inspired
and knew I had to stay with this group of people."

Deborah has a daughter and a son, "my family is very important to me."
Being an active member in her community is also very important to Deborah,
which makes sense she was born and raised in Williamsburg! she is a
paralegal , a Spiritual Advisor for the Enlightened Christian Academy, on
the advisory board for WATA and a Minister in her church. "I sing with the
church and am a liturgical dancer as well."

"One of my biggest triumphs as a low vision person has been learning the
computer! I was scared of them and avoided them as much as possible. Now,
I'm not an expert, but I use computers daily and learn more about them
almost every time I get on them. I'm interested in A.I. and technology in
general; they have made my life more independent and have opened doors for
me."

"I am so happy to say, my daughter, Jackie, and I have been approved to
receive a Habitat House, my prayers have been answered! In the near future,
I'll be a home owner, I'm walking on air!" That's phenomenal, Deborah,
house warming party at Deborah and Jackie's house next year LOL.

Thanks for sharing with us Deborah and you keep spreading the NFB word.

Peace,

Jacki Bruce
