Hey NFB Family and Friends,

We are going to continue getting to know the members of our newest chapter,
Greater Loudoun! This week we talked to Bryan Duarte, Chapter President.

Bryan has been with our NFB Family since 2015; he started with NABS,
President of Arizona Students Association and an Arizona board member. Bryan
was with our Greater Alexandria Chapter, he saw a need for another chapter,
in his area and he, with others put their words into action and the Greater
Loudoun Chapter was created. The chapter, shall we say, is making history.
They are meeting regularly, in person and virtually. They have built a
strong foundation with their founding members, Bryan is actively seeking new
members and he is involved, along with the Fairfax Chapter, to improve
transportation in the DMV. Bryan says "I have been an advocate for public
transportation in the Loudoun County to be more accessible and have more
opportunities to reach destinations across the DMV." Bryan continues by
saying "I would love for our chapter to be a part of the 2025 or 2026
Virginia state convention." Keep up the great work Bryan and Loudoun
Members, it could happen!

Bryan is involved with our legislation, both here and in Arizona, he's gone
to Richmond and Washington Seminars, has attended local government meetings
and is working on having area Delegates and a Senator to discuss our issues
at one of the chapter meetings in the near future.

Bryan, humbly states " I am a business owner so the majority of my spare
time goes to working to develop assistive technology to translate non-verbal
communication queues in real-time to users through the sense of touch. I
would also like to launch my companies first product to get it in to the
hands of individuals who are blind or low vision. We truly believe this
device and subsequent devices could positively impact the way of life for
those who do not have sight or limited sight. " Good luck and continued
success with your company; I'm looking forward to seeing these products on
the market!

Bryan reflects on favorite memories, he says he has several and one of the
more recent ones was a trip to Jamaica and a Sandals Resort. He hopes to
travel and visit more Sandals Resorts in other areas! Do I hear you're a bit
of a beach bum, Bryan LOL?

Bryan received his Bachelors in Software Engineering in 2015, then received
his Masters, and Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2020. He now works for the
Federal Government. He is married to Hayley Duarte, and they have 4 children
together. They have twin boys who are 14, and two daughters 16, and 9. They
also have two dogs named Zero and Dallas.

He has a brown belt in Chinese Kempo and a purple belt in Shoulin Kung-Fu,
and thinks his NFB Family would be surprised to know this about him.

Thank you for sharing, Bryan, it has been a pleasure getting to know you
better. Stay tuned for more Greater Loudoun Members!

Peace,

Jacki Bruce
