[NFBV-Announce] Member to Member, let's get to know each other-Charles McLeod

Hello NFB Family and Friends,

 

Welcome to another edition of member to member! Today we will get to  know
Charles McLeod   from our Greater Williamsburg Chapter. Charles has been a
member of our NFBV Family since November 2020 and he has been active! He's
rallied for us at Richmond Seminar, for several years. He's participated in
both of our Conventions, National and State, again for several years. He's
been the chapter's Vice President, has taught the chapter how to use a fire
extinguisher, he's taught members on the Meta Glasses and he's always there
with a winning smile and a helpful hand.

 

"I'd like to see our chapter do more things with each other, you know, get
to know each other better and really become a better team!" Charles says.
"I want to provide more of what the chapter members want like more
technology training and provide more resources for blind and low vision
people. I also take time to educate people about being blind and that not
everyone is totally blind. Many blind people have some sight" Charles
states, excitedly.

 

Charles is a Treckie, Star Trek that is and he has been known to "mind meld"
at Star Trek Conventions. He really loves to teach people about CPR and
other safety and life saving methods. In fact, he's working on the
requirements he needs to recertify; he was a Paramedic before becoming low
vision. "My biggest challenge has been adjusting  to not working!. My career
was very important to me! I've adjusted and have learned I CAN live the life
I want and I CAN work again!" .  You can do it, Charles! Keep up the great
work.

 

You may be surprised to know Charles has been in a marching band and he's
also played, wait for it.the BAGPIPES! Traveling is on Charles's bucket
list; he would love to explore Europe and immerse himself in the culture,
food and people.  He longs to go back to British Columbia, "I really loved
it there! I learned who I was and what I wanted from life while I was there.
I have to say it defined me as a person, even if that sounds corny! "
Charles chuckles.

 

Charles has a BIG heart! If he had one wish he would wish for peace, he
would hope people would give more of themselves and share their talents. He
would like to be sure he makes a difference in the world!

 

And on that note, we thank you Charles for sharing a bit of yourself with
