[NFBV-Blind-Parents] Possible Resources for Advocacy

Hey guys,

Sorry for the multiple posts today.

I did a little homework and found a few possible groups who might be
worth approaching for assistance with our blind parent legislation.
One social worker mentioned NASW, which I presume is the National
Association for Social Workers? Another social worker offered the
following. She wrote:

“Most of the contacts I have are private outpatient therapy groups and
residential treatment facilities. I will certainly be keeping your
group in mind when working with them and pass along National
Federation of the Blind of Virginia. The main organization within my
realm of work who might be interested in partnering would be NAMI
(National Alliance on Mental Illness), they have different chapters
locally (DC and Northern Virginia, etc.). Others are Grafton
Residential Treatment Facility (Berryville, VA), ChildHelp Residential
Treatment Facility (Lignum, VA), United Methodist Family Services
(UMFS) Residential Treatment Facility (Richmond, VA).”

I don’t know if any of these groups would be natural allies for us,
but it would be great if someone could take these names and follow up.
I have to admit I’m swamped with other items for the affiliate and
work, and I can’t commit to doing a proper contact with them. If
you’re interested in doing some legwork though, please let Jessica
know.

Thanks,

Joe
