[Nfbv-fairfax] Fairfax Chapter meeting Minutes - October 17, 2013

October 17, 2013

The meeting started at 7 PM. Don first read the proclamation signed by
the mayor of Fairfax County For white Cane Safety Day. Attached for your information and records is a signed copy of the proclamation. 

Chapter Fellowship grants were provided to Jessica and Carolena and ahardy round of applause and congratulations were given by the Chapter. 
 Tajuan gave
information  on NFB News Line and how to sign up. For those who are interested in accessing Newsline, please contact John halverson.  John will be giving  A presentation on News Line on Sunday morning at the state convention. 
We had a lively philosophy
discussion about what it means to be an organization of the blind
instead of being one for the blind.  
The Potomac chapter is holding a
diabetic seminar on December 7, 2013 at the Arlington Central Library
located at 1015 north Quinsy Street.
Jessica advised the Chapter that she is resigning as secretary and will no longer be able to attend chapter meetings. 
Elections will be held in
November for office positions in the chapter and you must be in good
standing on dues to take part. Wanda announced that Cathy was designated as Nomination Chair Committee and Beverly is the designee.  this lead to another lively discussion.  don asked several questions regarding the committee and it's selection.  Wanda advised that such committees as the Nomination, Scolarship, or Fellowship are temporary committees and only exist for a specific event, tiime and with a specific purpose.  
The meeting closed with the members reciting the NFB pledge. 
  The meeting came to a close at 8:45 PM
