[NFBV-Fairfax] October Fairfax Chapter Meeting, Thursday, October 17, 2024, 7:00 to 8:30 PM

	Good afternoon, everyone.
I want to thank representatives of the Potomac Chapter, Patty Droppers and Joe Orozco, and my husband Gary, for assisting me with what turned out to be an excellent Blind Equality Achievement Month event at Skyline House Condominiums yesterday.
We answered excellent questions on blindness, shared information about BRaille, demonstrated VoiceOver on the iPhone, read Braille, and had alphabet cards on hand, and transcribed some names. 
We provided snacks, received a few donations, and had a truly enjoyable and engaging event.
As all of you likely know, The Right to Ride Rally is taking place as I write in San Francisco.
Federationists from all over the country are participating in protests outside Uber ’s and Lyft’s headquarters for the increasing number of denials blind rideshare users are subjected to, often because of dog guides, but not only because of them. 
Yesterday afternoon, in fact, after the successful meeting we held, Joe Orozco’s Uber driver drove away when she saw him approaching with his cane in one hand and his nearly three-year-old daughter in her car seat in the other.
I kid you not.
At our meeting this Thursday, we will discuss these disparate occurrences, as well as discuss elections, our new bank account, convention information, and our November in-person meeting at Matchbox Reston (reminder: we will be meeting on November 16; I will be out of town the following weekend, and besides, November 16 is the NFB’s eighty-fourth birthday.
If you did not pay your annual dues of $5.00 in the past year, you will need to bring them to the November meeting in order to participate in voting or to run for a position.
Your dues must be collected prior to elections.
We hope to have our account and a cashless method of payment live by the end of the year, potentially sooner. 
I hope to see you all on Thursday evening.
