It was brought to my attention my first email contained absolutely nothing which would get anyone excited about Saturday's meeting. Here is what I have planned. First, I invited one of our fabulous Virginia fellows from the new program the affiliate recently created. If he can't come Saturday, I will arrange another date with him at his earliest convenience. I asked him to talk not only about the program but himself as well as his special areas of interest.

We need to discuss the up coming national convention so there will be, hopefully, no misunderstandings or hurt feelings. I need to make certain anyone who needs financial assistance has let me know. I do not want to deny anyone, but our treasury is not bottomless. Therefore, if you need financial assistance, please tell me honestly how much you need as a supplement to your own resources. I can take into account extenuating circumstances, but I also must be as fair as possible to everyone. We need each person going to draw upon his or her own resources as much as possible. However, I do not want anyone to think he or she cannot request help from our immediate NFB chapter family if it is necessary. I might not be able to give each person as much as he or she needs, but I will try! This year, we absolutely need to keep better records for IRS purposes. Therefore, if you attend the convention and receive any financial assistance from the chapter, you need to provide, as proof of attendance, a copy of your registration badge. That is what you will need to present in order to receive your reimbursement after the convention.
Last week, very unhappily, I said there would be no Paddle With the Blind. Apparently, I was not the only person who was unhappy with this decision. Probably, we can do it if we use a different resource. I hope to report on this during Saturday's meeting. Please come Saturday. Everyone is cordially invited and welcome. I was urged to find someone to call everyone on the chapter list and extend a personal invitation to Saturday's meeting. As much as I would like to do so, I do not think I can cause that to happen between now and then. Instead, I would like to encourage each of you who is planning to come to contact at least one other member and invite him or her to join you. Our chapter is our most immediate family unit. It is always a pleasure to spend time with members of our closest Federation family. I would love nothing better than to have to start reserving the theater room for us at the library because we out grow the cable studio room.
