Below are the minutes from our August meeting.

PCNFB Chapter Minutes for August 9, 2018

The Monthly meeting of the Potomac Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind was convened at 7 p.m. by President John Halverson. Seventeen members were present.

The icebreaker was if you had a time machine and you could go back in time, who would you like to hear or who's speech would you like to listen to??

We had a moment of silence.

The minutes of the June 14, 2018 meeting were done by Sarah, but Sarah had knee surgery.

Treasurer's Report For the period from 06/14/2018 to 08/09/2018
Beginning Balance: $1,099.09
Ending Balance as of 08/09/2018: General Fund:  $816.09

Philosophy
Chris Danielson, director of Communications at the National Center was our guest speaker to discuss our NFB brand. Our tagline is "Live the Life you want" and we have a logo which encompasses our reputation. How the NFB can enhance their reputation by reflecting the type of message that we want to send.

Commentary about National Convention
Several members expressed their thoughts about either being at convention for the first time or those coming back to convention highlighted President Riccobono's banquet address and Joanne's speech about growing up with blind parents. Technology workshops, learning tango, attending division meetings, etc.

State Convention
The 60th state convention will be taking place Friday, Nov. 9-Sunday, Nov. 11th being held at the Hospitality House in Fredericksburg.

Auction
We will be having our annual auction to be held on Saturday , August 18th at Billy Ruth and Allen's club room 1881 N. Nash Street in Arlington.Wine, chocolates, baskets, gift cards, and dinner have been donated for our auction.

Project RISE
We will be starting a statewide program for transition-age students.

Announcements
Rodney still has some cross-body handbags leftover from national convention for sale for $15 in various colors.
The chapter board should meet on a conference call on the last Monday of the month.
Kellogg's has teamed up with the NFB to do Rice Krispies treats
