Colleagues,

At our Potomac Chapter meeting on March 12, Tracy announced subminimum wages had been outlawed in Virginia. After reading the legislative language he found this is unfortunately not true.

See below.

Subject: Error on Thursday evening - Sub-Minimum Wages continue in Virginia

Hi John,

On Thursday at the Potomac Chapter conference call, I reported fake news. While the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation to raise the minimum wage, there were many exemptions including one for Section 14c holders to pay sub-minimum wages for people with disabilities. We relied on reporting from multiple news outlets that proved to be inaccurate.

Upon reading the exact legislative language this afternoon, we found the exemption for Section 14c holders.

I am sorry for the error and even more disappointed that this deplorable practice continues in Virginia.
Please feel free to distribute to the chapter.
