Sounds good. Here are the minutes:

March 11, 2021 Potomac Chapter Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. and 14 members were present.
The minutes from the February meeting were approved with a correction made to the February treasurer's report: The youth fund balance should have said $750.00.
The March treasurer's report was approved. Current balances are $2,288.74 in the general fund and $750.00 in the youth fund.
Sean will distribute an email over the weekend regarding the April 8 election. Anyone who wishes to vote or run for a position must pay dues before the meeting.
Kassahun spoke about his work with blind people in Ethiopia, providing them with canes and other equipment and participating in policy advocacy to improve the lives of blind people in Ethiopia and around the world.
Christine proposed a fund-raising opportunity called GroupRaise. It would allow our chapter to pick a restaurant and get 10-20% of the proceeds during a specific time period from orders using a fund-raising code. More details will be discussed at an upcoming chapter board meeting.
Christine suggested having a future presentation about issues faced by dog guide users. These might include recent airline restrictions, people doubting the legitimacy of dog guides, and problems with untrained or poorly behaved animals interacting with dog guides.
The chapter's programming committee will meet this Saturday to develop this presentation. Please bring ideas to Christine.
Before the next meeting, Tracy will send out the voting protocol to use for our elections.
At next month's meeting, members are invited to share stories about getting vaccinated or signing up to get vaccinated
We discussed the highly successful Richmond Seminar. All of the legislation that we promoted has passed the Congress and is awaiting signature from the governor.
Chapter members concluded the meeting by reciting the NFB pledge.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Arielle Silverman, Secretary, NFB Potomac Chapter

The $1000 check will be youth fund. I was not there for the early part of the meeting. That check has not been deposited yet and is not part of the report.
The youth fund balance is $750.00. Sorry, I just looked at what I wrote last time and copied it down; it is amazing how 1 mistake can propagate :).

Hi all,
I'm finishing the March minutes but I'm super confused about these treasurer's reports. I just looked at the March one and it says $1,750 for the youth fund. I thought we had determined the youth fund balance is actually $750.00. Also, John mentioned receiving a recent $1000 check from Kiwanis, but I assume that hasn't been deposited yet since it's not in the treasurer's report. Please advise on what I should put for the general balance and the youth balance? Thanks!
Arielle

Subject: Draft minutes and treasurer's report question

Hi Christine and Sean,
Below are the draft minutes from last week's meeting. I had not reviewed the treasurer's report before the meeting, but when reviewing it for the minutes I saw that the youth fund balance is listed as $1,750.00. However last month it was listed as $750.00. The balance was listed as unchanged. Do we need to make a correction and if so, do we do that in the minutes or at next month's meeting?

February 11, 2021

The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. and 16 members were present.
Each participant indicated which Valentine's Day movie they wanted to watch on Sunday afternoon. The movie that got the most votes was Crazy Rich Asians.
The movie will be shown on the NFBV affiliate Zoom line on Sunday Feb 14 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We are hoping to show an audio-described version of the movie with audio and video.
The chapter took a few moments to reflect on Harold Magnusson, who passed away last Saturday. Donations in his memory can be sent to the National Center for the Blind, to his church, or to the NFBV McDonald fund.
The minutes from the January meeting were approved without correction.
The treasurer's report was approved. Current balances are $2,399.74 in the general fund and $1,750.00 in the youth fund.
Christine has appointed the nominating and audit committees for 2021. The nominating committee will be chaired by Patti Droppers and will also include Deepa Goraya, Nancy Yeager, and Sandy Halverson. The audit committee will be chaired by John Halverson, and will also include Joe Hobson and Diana Olivera and will be chaired by Sean McMahon.
The guest speakers were Brittany Ham and Bridgette Wisdom from the Arlington Public Library. She talked about Libby, an app for downloading audiobooks and E-books from local libraries. Anyone can set up a Libby account with a library card. Libby used to be called OverDrive.
Brittany demonstrated how to use the app with VoiceOver and answered members' questions.

Deepa and Tracy provided an update on Washington Seminar. Generally the virtual appointments went well. Out of our 13 federal legislators, we met with 6 legislators directly, which is more than in past in-person visits. We secured one new co-sponsor for the Access Technology Affordability Act, Congressman Whitman, along with Congressman Beyer who was already a co-sponsor before Washington Seminar. Our other three bills have not yet been introduced. Once they are introduced, we will follow up with our legislators asking them for their support.
Christine asked for ideas for presentations at future meetings. Nancy suggested a series of presentations from our NFB national divisions, such as the guide dog users' division.
Tracy stated he is really hoping we can hold an in-person state convention this year. However, we will need to raise money for hosting, etc.
Sandy moved and Nancy seconded that the chapter donate $100 to the McDonald Fellowship fund in memory of Harold Magnusson. The motion passed.
Chapter members concluded the meeting by reciting the NFB pledge.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:43 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Arielle Silverman, Secretary, NFB Potomac Chapter
